 Talat has submitted an oral request for a face to face meeting with AnnanTurkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (27.09.06) reports that the self-styled presidential spokesman in the occupied territories of the Republic of Cyprus Hasan Ercakica, said that Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talats possible visit to New York to meet with the UN Secretary-General is on the agenda and that they have made oral request to this effect. He said that Talats address to the General Assembly is not an easy thing and that there is no such request at this moment.
As for President Papadopoulos recent speech at the UN General Assembly Ercakica said that Talat will write a letter to the UN Secretary-General and in there he will express his reactions.
Ercakica had alleged that President Papadopoulos is trying to change the basic parameters of the Cyprus problem. He claimed that President Papadopouloss search for a unitary state is undermining the solution efforts.
 Erdogan comments on the Cyprus issue, the Article 301 and the government reshuffle in the occupied areasTurkish daily HURR0YET newspaper (27.09.06) carries a report on yesterday s speech of the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the parliamentary group meeting of his Justice and Development Party (AKP). Commenting on Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code, Mr Erdogan said: If legitimate rights and freedoms are curbed in our effort to prevent offensive acts through the implementation of article 301 of the Penal Code, then we will make the necessary amendments to the article.
Touching upon the recent government reshuffle in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Erdogan criticized all those who said that his party and himself have interfered in changes that happened in the government, adding: Everyone talks, everyone writes, everyone types in the computers. But neither my party nor I have any part in this affair. Replying to a question regarding Serdar Denktas remark that the Prime Minister has not called me, Mr Erdogan said: Why should I have? If there was a trouble, you should be the one to call the Prime Minister of the country.

Referring to the Cyprus issue, Prime Minister Erdogan stated: We said our final word about the Cyprus issue on April 24th, 2004 when Turkish Cypriots voted in favour of United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan's plan in the referenda. Although the Greek Cypriot administration rejected the plan, they were awarded with EU membership while Turkish Cypriots were punished.
However, the TRNC has been further progressing day by day. Now, it has become an observer member of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) as 'Turkish Cypriot Republic'. Several groups from various countries have begun paying direct visits to the TRNC. A few weeks ago, President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan officially invited President Mehmet Ali Talat of the TRNC to his country, he noted.
Commenting on the recent government reshuffle in the TRNC, Mr Erdogan said: Turkish Cypriots will make their own decisions. As Turkey, we only support them. Any intervention is out of question.
 New amendments to be introduced for obtaining the TRNC citizenshipTurkish Cypriot daily KIBRISLI newspaper (27.09.06) reports under banner headlines New criteria to the citizenship that the self-styled Minister of Interior Ozkan Murat, said that they will introduce amendments and make new arrangements as regards the citizenship in the occupied territories of the Republic of Cyprus. According to the new arrangements, there will be no giving mass citizenships. In order to be eligible for applying for citizenship one has to secure, first, five years working permit, then for the next five years a permanent residency and at the end of that period one will have the right to apply for citizenship. Application for citizenship is not a green light to the citizenship. Speaking to the reporters Ozkan Murat claimed that in 2006, forty three thousand people had applied for getting work permit in 2005 this number was 31.668.
 Serdar Denktas attacks the new coalition governmentTurkish Cypriot daily KIBRIS newspaper (27.09.06) reports that the outgoing self-styled Foreign Minister in the occupied territories of the Republic of Cyprus Serdar Denktas, during the hand over ceremony yesterday strongly attacked the new so-called coalition and said: I am handing over the duty to the member of a government that I consider non-existent. I am doing so because of the respect I have to the establishment.
 Huseyin Angolemli met with the Czech Ambassador to CyprusTurkish Cypriot daily HALKIN SESI newspaper (27.09.06) reports that the General Chairman of the Communal Liberation Party (TKP) Huseyin Angolemli, had a meeting yesterday with the Czech Ambassador to Cyprus Martin Vavra. During the meeting, Angolemli said that critical days are ahead and that very important decisions are going to be taken during the months October and November as regards the Cyprus problem. He said that the Finnish term presidency is preparing proposals on the Cyprus problem without consulting the Turkish Cypriots. He accused the present Turkish Cypriot leadership of being mere spectators of the developments.
 A joint company by Cyprus Turkish Airlines and HAVASTurkish daily SABAH newspaper (27.09.06), in its financial pages, reports that the Director of the Cyprus Turkish Airlines (KTHY), Mr Ahmet Derya, has signed a strategic agreement with the Director of HAVAS Turkish company on ground services - , Mr Mujdat Yucel, to jointly found an airport ground services company. Their aim is to upgrade service and to achieve international standards in air transport in the occupied areas.
 Illegal universities try to attract students from TurkeyUnder the banner headline The TRNC is the islands only education centre, Turkish daily AKSAM newspaper (27.09.06) reports that education fairs are taking place in Turkey to attract students to the universities in the occupied territories of the Republic of Cyprus. The Deans of the LAU (Lefke American University), the DAU (East Mediterranean University), the self-styled Minister of Education Canan Oztoprak along with some other senior education officers held yesterday a press conference at Swissotel in Istanbul. Ms Oztoprak said: In TRNC, there are 6 universities and 40,000 students. Some 27,000 students are from Turkey, 10,000 are from TRNC and the rest are from other countries. Faculty members at our universities come from 35 different countries We want also to promote the infrastructure and the quality of our universities.
During the press conference, the Dean of the LAU, Professor Dr Ali Riza Buyukuslu pointed out that the students can continue their studies in Britain, U.S.A. and in Europe. Or they can study two years in the occupied areas and two years in Britain.

 Enver Ozturk is reportedly the lawyer of a Turkish company that submitted an application for building a 30-storey hotel in KeryniaUnder the title The lawyer of a company cannot be a minister, Turkish Cypriot daily AFRIKA (27.09.06) reports that it is said that Enver Ozturk, the newly appointed minister of economy and tourism, is the lawyer of many companies, among which is a company that filed an application in order to build a 30-storey hotel in Kerynia. The paper reports that this plot of land, in a region which is in the east of a place known as Poaltan Palace, had been bought by Zeki Ziya for two million sterling pounds, but the former minister of economy and tourism, Dervis Kemal Deniz opposed to the construction of a 30-storey hotel there. AFRIKA wonders whether or not the information that Mr Ozturk is the lawyer of this investor is true.
It also wonders whether or not the allegation that Mr Ozturk is the lawyer of the businessman named Yahya Kurt is true. According to some allegation, Mr Kurt is, inter alia, the administrator of Oscar Casino and Galaxy betting offices and has close relations with Prime Minister Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP). The paper notes that according to the same information, Kurt is the person who prevented the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mehmet Ali Talat to veto Mr Ozturks appointment to the ministry.
