[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] Another place where Greek Cypriot victims were buried during the Turkish invasion of the islandUnder the title 14 corpses at Mevlevi Tekke [dervish lodge], Turkish Cypriot daily Afrika newspaper (09.09.09) reports that it was established that a mass grave is located in the centre of Lefkosia at the Mevlevi Tekke [dervish lodge] next to the Turkish war cemetery.According to information acquired by the paper, this mass grave has been established by the Committee on Missing Persons and it will soon be opened. The paper notes that after April 2004, a group of Greek Cypriots from occupied Aiyialousa village crossed over to the occupied areas searching for a Turkish Cypriot police sergeant who saved their lives during the 1974 Turkish invasion of the island. The meeting was materialized with the pensioner sergeant Mr Vedat, who was in bed sick and described to them an incident of which he was eye witness. He said that during the invasion some Greek Cypriots were buried in the Mevlevi Tekke. Reporters of Afrika went to the above-mentioned place and took the picture of the spot where the Greek Cypriots are buried. The reporters found out that the 14 Greek Cypriots entered into the area occupied by the Turkish troops in 1974 either because they lost their way or for some other reasons. They were killed and buried in a hole at the above-mentioned Tekke. (I/Ts.) [02] Erolu announced the results of a survey, which revealed that 50.1% of the persons in the occupied areas supports the existence of two separate statesIllegal BAYRAK television (08.09.09) reports the following:Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu has called on the Greek Cypriot Side to adopt a reasonable stance and to open the way for reconciliation in Cyprus. He also urged the Greek Cypriot Side to accept the existence of another state in Cyprus and to open the way for reconciliation. `All should know that the Cyprus Turkish People are not helpless and they have alternatives`, he said. Prime Minister Dervi Erolu held a press conference today to make an
assessment of his first 100 days in office. Economic measures taken by
the government and the negotiation process continuing in Cyprus was the
two main topics of the press conference.
On the negotiation process, Mr Erolu said that his government was
working in full harmony with President Mehmet Ali Talat who is
conducting the negotiations. The Premier repeated that a representative
of the government would be included in the Turkish Side s team at the
talks.
He also urged the Greek Cypriot Side to adopt a reasonable stance and
to open the way for reconciliation in Cyprus. `I hope our Greek Cypriot
neighbors will adopt a reasonable stance at the negotiations which are
to be resumed on Thursday and accept the existence of another state in
Cyprus which is equal to their own state and will open the way for
reconciliation`, he said.
`All should know that the Cyprus Turkish People are not helpless and
they have alternatives`, he said, adding that the Turkish Republic of
Northern Cyprus exists and will continue to do so.
Announcing the results of a latest public survey, the Prime Minister
said the study revealed that 50.1% of the TRNC people supports the
existence of two separate independent states, 17.4% a federation with a
strong central government, 16.8% a confederation with a weak central
government and 8.4% wanted the continuation of the current situation
while 6.5% is in support of integration with Turkey.
On economic issues, Mr Eroglu said that the government has been working
hard since coming to power to develop the economy and the private
sector and to achieve greater economic growth in order to create a
stronger Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
He said an opinion poll has revealed that the measures taken by his
government have the support of the TRNC people.
He said the government needs the support of the trade unions, civil
society organizations, workers and businessmen in order to achieve this
objective and explained that he wanted to create a platform where all
these would be represented.
`I hope all will get rid of their prejudices and such a platform will
be created` he said, expressing the hope that the government would
achieve its objective with the support of this platform.
The Premier also noted that the 13th salary would not be scrapped and
retirement bonuses will not be taxed. He also added that his government
is determined to make the Prime Ministry Inspection Board functional.
Moreover, Turkish Cypriot daily Vatan newspaper (09.09.09) reports that
in statements yesterday during a press conference on the occasion of
the completion of 100 days from the National Unity Partys (UBP) coming
to power the self-styled prime minister Dervis Eroglu referred to the
protest activities organized by some Turkish Cypriot trade unions and
argued that their aim is to abolish the TRNC, breakaway regime in the
occupied areas of Cyprus, and pave the way for an agreement which will
ensure that the Turkish Cypriot people are patched up to the so-called
Republic of Cyprus.
Meanwhile, Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (09.09.09) refers to
Mr Eroglus statements and reports that the self-styled prime minister
announced the results of a public opinion poll regarding the Cyprus
problem. According to these results, 50.1% of the people support two
completely independent states in Cyprus. Mr Eroglu alleged that this
result coincides with the will of 19 April 2004 as expressed by the
Turkish Cypriots during the referendum regarding the Annan Plan. The
paper publishes Mr Eroglus statements under the title Account for it
will be called and notes that he said they will call some persons to
account for the corruption in the occupied areas.
Mr Eroglu was asked whether he was annoyed by the support expressed to
the Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat by the Turkish Prime
Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and replied negatively. He added that
this was a message given to the public opinion in Turkey. He noted that
Mr Erdogan used this expression in order to stress that Cyprus will not
be sacrificed. Responding to another question, Mr Eroglu said his party
will have a candidate in the forthcoming so-called presidential
elections, but the competent organs of the party have not decided yet
on the issue.

Foreign Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Huseyin
Ozgurgun has said the government has reached agreement with President
Mehmet Ali Talat to add a governmental representative into the TRNC
negotiating team.
Answering a reporters question during a visit paid to him today, the
Minister said the representative will be chosen through his Ministry
but noted that its yet a bit early to speak of names.
Mr Ozgurgun said the representative may not be chosen by the first
meeting of the second round but the final decision will definitely be
made before the second meeting.
Meanwhile, Turkish Cypriot daily Kibrisli newspaper (09.09.09) refers
to the same issue under the title The imam crisis has been proven to be
false and reports that the head of the so-called Religious Affairs
Department, Yusuf Suicmez has deceived the press in the name of
politics and lied to the people. The paper notes that the news
published yesterday in the front page of Kibris has been proven to be
faked up.

In statements yesterday during a meeting of government officials with
the Union of Turkish Cypriot Travel Agents (KITSAB), Mr Tacoy noted
that during a visit he paid to the illegal airlines he saw that they
are preparing a program for new destinations. He noted that the
additional flights are planned from Bristol, Manchester and Glasgow. He
noted that during a meeting he held with the Turkish Minister of
Transport, Binali Yildirim he asked for the abolition of the fee
charged for the journeys to the occupied areas of Cyprus and added that
soon they will sign a protocol with the Turkish Ministry aiming at the
increase of the number of the passengers. He said they will try to lift
the above-mentioned fee as well within the scope of this protocol.
Mr Tacoy noted that they have completed a feasibility study on the
issue of how appropriate the shores of the occupied areas of Cyprus are
for marinas and yachting. He noted that within this framework they plan
to build a marina in the old port of occupied Keryneia and the port of
occupied Famagusta with the capacity of receiving more than 3.000
yachts. He noted that they will announce these projects in three
months. He said the positive results of these projects could be seen as
of next April.
The chairman of KITSAB Ozbek Dedekorkut and the self-styled minister of
tourism, environment and culture, Hamza Ertan Saner participated in the
meeting.

Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu is being taken to the court by the
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) over slanderous remarks made against
former ministers. CTP has also started legal proceedings against
state-run BRT for broadcasting Dr Eroglus comments.
Ferdi Sabit Soyer, the former prime minister, and former ministers
Ozkan Murat, Canan Oztoprak, Ahmet Uzun, Salih Usar, Esref Vaiz and
Sonay Adem filed a case at Lefkosa District Court on Friday. They are
seeking compensation from Dr Eroglu and BRT director Ozer Kanli and
board member Tulin Ural.
Turkey's president met with members of "The Elders Group", a circle of
leaders working for global peace, in capital Ankara on Tuesday.
Turkish President Abdullah Gul got together with two members of the
group, former Algerian Foreign Minister Lakhdar Brahimi and former
Norwegian Foreign Minister Gro Brundtland, in a closed-door meeting at
Cankaya Presidential Palace.
According to officials, Gul briefed Brahimi and Brundtland on Turkey's
approach to the Cyprus issue during the gathering.
Emphasizing Turkey's constructive efforts aiming at the solution of
Cyprus issue, Gul also told the leaders that the European Union did not
keep its promise regarding the lifting of isolations on Turkish
Cypriots.
The Elders are an independent group of eminent global leaders, brought
together by Nelson Mandela, who offer their collective influence and
experience to support peace building, help address major causes of
human suffering and promote the shared interests of humanity.
The Elders are currently helping to promote an environment for the
successful completion of the ongoing peace talks in Cyprus.
Members of the group Brahimi and Brundtland are expected to travel to
the Greek capital of Athens and Greek part of Cyprus in the upcoming
days.
Addressing the OIC Ambassadors, Mr Gul, inter alia, said that when we
consider the recent 40 years since the OIC was established, we are
looking with sadness that the problems humanity is facing have
diversified and the conflicts have not been decreased, but increased.
He added that valuable resources are being wasted in wars and that the
OIC geography is being extremely affected from these problems, as well.
Mr Gul said that all those negative developments once more indicated
the importance of joint international action and strengthening of
friendship and fraternal ties.
Mr Gul also referred to the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of
the establishment of the Economic and Commercial Cooperation Permanent
Committee (ISEDAK). The celebrations of the Committee, which is chaired
by the Turkish President, will take place during the ISEDAK meeting on
November 5-7 and on November 9 when the heads of state of the OIC s
Executive Committee member countries will attend an Economic Summit
in Istanbul.
The self-styled ambassador of the occupation regime to the OIC was
among the 32 OIC Ambassadors attending the dinner.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutolu is scheduled to depart for Cairo today
to attend a ministerial-level meeting of the 22-nation Arab League
where strained relations between Iraq and Syria will be one of the
items topping the agenda.
Relations between Iraq and Syria deteriorated after Baghdad alleged
that Damascus was harboring insurgents behind one of two devastating
truck bombings that killed 95 people and wounded about 600 in the Iraqi
capital on Aug. 19. On Aug. 25, Iraq recalled its ambassador in
Damascus, and Syria retaliated within hours by ordering its envoy back
from Baghdad. Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, whose country holds
the rotating presidency of the European Union, is also expected to
attend the meeting in Cairo, Syrian media have reported.
Last week Davutolu paid consecutive visits to Baghdad and Damascus in a
bid to ease relations between the two neighbors after they withdrew
their respective envoys. Following Iraq and Syria, Davutolu also
visited Egypt, where he had talks with President Hosni Mubarak as well
as with his Egyptian counterpart, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and intelligence
chief Omar Suleiman.
Following his participation in the Arab League meeting in Cairo,
Davutolu is expected to pay visits to Jordan and Iran, diplomatic
sources told Today's Zaman on Tuesday. According to a tentative
schedule, Davutolu will be in Amman on Thursday and Friday and will be
visiting Tehran on Saturday and Sunday, the same sources said.
Turkey, a NATO member and a candidate for EU membership, has in recent
years focused on boosting its political and economic cooperation with
Middle Eastern countries and sought to establish itself as a broker in
regional conflicts.
In his capacity as chief foreign policy adviser to Prime Minister Recep
Tayyip Erdoan, Davutolu had talks with the most controversial political
actors, including Damascus-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, and was
behind the Turkish-brokered mediation between Syria and Israel. Last
week, delivering a speech in the Cairo-based Al-Ahram Center for
Political and Strategic Studies (ACPSS), Davutolu cited maximum
security, democracy, zero problem with neighbors and peace diplomacy as
the fundamental principles of Turkish foreign policy.
We have been trying to protect our people's democratic freedom as much
as possible. We don't experience problems with our neighbors if we
maintain our security. We are trying to resolve the Syria-Iraq dispute.
I'm involved in this issue solely as a member of a family living in the
same house, not as a mediator, Davutolu said.
According to the paper, the group made an appeal to the political
parties for a new Constitution. The group also decided the
establishment of a National Human Rights Association in order for a
national control mechanism against torture to be created. In addition,
the preparation of an action plan concerning the human rights is also
on the agenda.

Turkish Finance Ministry fined Turkish publisher Dogan Yayin Holding
3.75 billion TL (2.52 billion USD) for tax irregularities, Dogan said
in a statement on Tuesday.
In its statement, Dogan denied charges and said it would use its all
legal rights including appeal and reconciliation.
The ministry issued the penalty after an examination into tax reports
for 2005, 2006 and 2007, Dogan said, adding that the fine includes
unpaid tax of 1.87 billion TL, loss of tax of 1.87 TL and unspecified
tax irregularities of a total of 342 million.
Shares of stock-listed Dogan companies started the day with sharp
declines up to 12 percent after ministry's penalty.
Turkish State Minister Zafer Caglayan received Indian Commerce &
Industry Minister Anand Sharma in Ankara on Tuesday. Sharma is in
Ankara to attend a meeting of Turkey-India Economic & Technical
Cooperation Joint Committee.
Following his meeting with Sharma, Caglayan told reporters that they
reached an understanding with the Indian minister on a working group on
a free trade agreement which was planned to be signed between Turkey
and India. He noted that the officials who would take place in the
working group would meet in October.
Caglayan said that the trade volume between Turkey and India had been 3
billion USD in 2008.
Infrastructure and super structure construction projects --worth of 500
billion USD-- would be implemented in India in the next ten years,
Caglayan said that it was important that Turkish contractor companies
would undertake those projects.
Caglayan also said that the two countries could cooperate in medicine,
chemicals, communication, information technologies and textile
sectors.
Caglayan said that India would become neighbor with Europe via Turkey
with the free trade agreement they were planning to sign.
Meanwhile, guest minister told reporters that they would provide more
incentives to companies in public sector, adding that they would
encourage companies for mutual investments in Turkey and India.
Sharma said that free trade agreement and general economic cooperation
would develop the relations between Turkey and India.
Particularly, the State Minister responsible for the Turkish citizens
living abroad, Mr Faruk Celik, prepared a bill regarding the issue,
which will be presented to the Turkish Parliament in the upcoming days.
Mr Celik proposes the establishment of a Presidency for the Turks
abroad, which will offer help to the Turkish citizens living abroad to
resolve their problems, as well as to carry out lobby activities and
promote Turkey abroad. The Presidency will also be responsible for the
negative propaganda experienced against Turkey.
According to the paper, the Presidency will consist of one president,
seven department presidents and 50 experts while various desks will be
opened for countries with a large number of Turkish citizens such as
Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Norway,
Austria, France and Luxembourg. The presidency will be responsible for
determining policies, creating projects, developing policies against
the (Armenian) Diaspora and organizing promotion and PR activities for
Turkey.

Turkey plans to launch its first domestically-built earth observation
satellite next year.
Rasat, having a high-resolution optical imaging system and new modules
developed by Turkish engineers, will be the first earth observation
satellite to be designed and manufactured in Turkey.
The satellite will be launched from an airlift base in southeast
Russia. Officials of Turkey's TUBITAK Space Technologies Research
Institute and Russia's International Space Company Kosmotras inked a
deal last month for the launch of Turkish satellite.
Images from Rasat are expected to be used in mapping, disaster
monitoring, environment and urban and regional planning.
