[01] Arrested and set free: The reportedly murderer of Isaac and Solomou was arrested in Kirgizstan and then set free after the intervention of Turkey

The Turkish press reports today (20.09.12) on the arrest of Erhan Arikli who is accused for the murder of Tasos Isaac and Solomos Solomou in Deryneia in 1996.

Under the title: "Turkey stepped in", Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris reports on the issue and writes that the police of Kyrgyzstan arrested Erhan Arikli who in the past worked at the representation office of the breakaway regime in the country, after a demand issued by the Republic of Cyprus. However, notes the paper, after an intervention of the Turkish Embassy to Biskek, Arikli was set free.

Ankara Anatolia (AA) reported that the Ministry of Interior of Kyrgyzstan announced that the 1962-born Arikli was arrested at the international airport of Manas having in his possession a non-valid diplomatic passport. Arikli was set free after the intervention of the Turkish Embassy. In statements to AA, the economic attache to the Turkish Embassy to Biskek, Musaviri Behzat Erten, alleged that the crimes for which Arikli is accused are unfounded. He also said that Arikli's arrest in Kyrgyzstan with which Turkey has brotherhood and friendship relations, was faced with sorrow by the Turks living in Kyrgyzstan.

The paper also notes that Erhan Arikli's brother, Guven Arikli works as executive assistant in the "office" of the self-styled prime minister Irsen Kucuk.

In addition, Kibris also writes that commenting on the issue, the self-styled minister of foreign affairs of the breakaway regime, Huseyin Ozgurgun, said that they follow with caution the developments regarding Arikli's arrest and said that in 2009, Arikli worked at the representation office of the breakaway regime in Kyrgyzstan, but now his "diplomatic passport" is of no-valid and has not any "diplomatic assigns" in the country. He also said that Arikli was presented in front of a court yesterday which argued that the evidence against him has no ground and that the accusations against him consist of an internal issue of "south Cyprus".

Yeni Duzen also reports on the issue and writes that Arikli has been living in Kyrgyzstan for fourteen years now and that he has travelled abroad many times without facing any problem. The paper writes that Arikli is one out of eleven Turks wanted by Interpol for the murders of Isaac and Solomu. The paper notes that among them is General Hasan Kundakci.

Yeni Duzen also publishes statements of Arikli in Turkish daily Radikal, who stated that he has been living in Kyrgyzstan for many years now and that the information the Republic of Cyprus issued to Interpol are totally wrong, from the date of his birth to his parents' names. He claimed that the Greek Cypriots cannot do whatever they want in Kyrgyzstan and alleged that he is not guilty since when the events in 1996 took place in Deryneia, and at the time he was in Lefkosia.

Afrika reports on the issue under the title "The first arrest by Interpol" and writes that Arikli served in the "TRNC representation office" in Kyrgyzstan between 2007-2009.

Finally, Volkan reports on the issue under the title "Greek Cypriots' trap to Arikli" and writes that the "hostile and provocative actions of the Greek Cypriot administration were invalidated after the intervention of motherland Turkey".

[02] Eroglu on the Cyprus problem; He alleged that Anastasiades is not giving hopeful messages for the solution of the Cyprus problem

According to illegal Bayrak television (19.09.12), the Turkish Cypriot leader, Dervis Eroglu has paid a visit to the headquarters of the "Sonmezliler Local", an "association" which was established by "war veterans and members of the Turkish Resistance Organization".

Touching upon the Cyprus issue during his visit there, Eroglu said that the presidential candidate in "south Cyprus", as he called the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiades, who is said to be the strongest candidate, is not giving hopeful messages on the solution of the Cyprus problem.

He noted that the negotiations could continue following the presidential elections in the "south", yet he added, that the Turkish Cypriot side was against maintaining the talks open-ended.

Referring to the UN Special Adviser Alexander Downer's visit to the island, which will focus on the workings of the technical committees, Eroglu expressed disappointment over the fact that workings of the committees, regarding the confidence building measures, didn't achieve a sufficient progress.

Eroglu also pointed out that strengthening the "TRNC" as a "state" and increasing the level of prosperity of the Turkish Cypriot "people", were two vital duties whilst maintaining efforts towards the solution of the Cyprus problem.

[03] The occupation regime reportedly had no information about oil existence evidence in occupied Syngrasi prior to Yildiz statements

Under the title "We have been informed", Tayfun Cagra writes in Turkish Cypriot Yeni Duzen newspaper (20.09.12), that the Turkish Cypriots and the self-styled minister of economy and energy Sunat Atun were informed during the latter's visit to Ankara, that there are circumstantial evidence for oil existence in the occupied Syngrasi village where Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) is conducting oil exploration.

"Who made this announcement? The Turkish Minister of Energy Taner Yildiz", writes the Cagra who notes that it is not clear if the occupation regime had any idea about this important issue prior to the Turkish Minister's announcement. "I think it did not", writes the journalist who also notes that the "government" in the breakaway regime is not interested in any other issue than the UBP leadership congress.

[04] Controversy between Atun and Kasif about the "economic program"

Under the title: "The puzzle of the economic program", Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Duzen (20.09.12) reports on statements by the so-called minister of economy and energy Sunat Atun, who has said yesterday after the meeting he held in Turkey on the "economic program", that with the "2010-2012 economic program" a budget discipline has been achieved and that the "their economic programs are product of the TRNC's people".

Atun referred to the need to continue the preparation for the period "2013-2015" with the new "economic program" which will provide the improvement of the economic situation of the "country", and added that with a healthy, determined and rational strategic planning, they will achieve a viable growth, as he said.

The paper reports also on statements by the former so-called minister of health, Ahmet Kasif who has said that nobody has idea or is aware about the works which are taking place for the preparation of the 3-years "economic program". "We did not know the context of this preparation works even during the period I was minister. I am unaware of the program which is under preparation", Kasif said.

Kasif further said that the economic program has been prepared only by Atun, that he went alone to Turkey to submit it and that not only he did not listen the views of anyone, but also, he did not inform anyone about this.

[05] Tore on the decision of the "council of ministers" to give a plot of land for the building of a religious complex in Mia Milia

Turkish Cypriot daily Haberdar (20.09.12) reports on statements by Zorlu Tore, "MP" with the National Unity Party (UBP) in occupied Lefkosia and also member of the "research committee" of the so-called assembly.

Tore has said yesterday during a press conference, that the five-members "committee" of the so-called assembly which has launched investigation on the decision of the "council of ministers" to give in exchange for rent, 200 donums of plot of land to an organization named KISAV, in order for a religious college and a complex of buildings adjusted to a mosque (with a capacity of 3.000 persons) to be built in occupied Mia Milia village, has decided that no corruption has been made towards the lease contract.

According to the paper, the "committee" has been composed by three "MP's" with the UBP, Zorlu Tore, Mehmet Tancer and Ahmet Zengin who approved the allocation of the land to KISAV, and also by CTP "MP's", Mehmet Caglar and Ozdil Nami who rejected it.

Tore has stated further, that the lease duration will start on April 15, 2012 and will finish on March 24, 2042. The lease will be 100.T.L (approximately 45 euro).

[06] Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce on Izmir's Chamber's decision not to grant its members permission to visit occupied Cyprus

Under the title: "Embargo by the Izmir Chamber of Commerce", Turkish Cypriot daily Volkan newspaper (20.09.12) reports that the Izmir's Chamber rejected a demand issued by some of its members to conduct a visit to the occupied areas of Cyprus, causing the reaction of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce (KTTO).

According to the paper, KTTO reacted strongly to the explanations given by the chairman of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce that they have visited three times the occupied areas and three times the breakaway regime; therefore they want to keep a balance in their visits to the two sides of the island. "This reply does not make sense", KTTO stated and added that the various Chambers of Commerce in Turkey with the contacts held with KTTP which faces the "embargoes", consists of an air tube with the rest of the world.

[07] Newly established illegal university offers aviation diplomas

Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Duzen newspaper (20.09.12) publishes an advertisement of the newly established illegal "Mediterranean Karpass University", who offers an aviation program in its curriculum.

According to the advertisement, the new illegal university offers diplomas for pilots, air stewards and for persons who want to work in aviation industry.

[08] Military prosecutor's report on the Turkish jet crashed into the Mediterranean

Turkish daily Hurrieyet Daily News (19.09.12) reported that a report by a military prosecutor said yesterday that a Turkish F-4 Phantom warplane which crashed into the Mediterranean on June 22, was shot down by a Syrian air defence missile even though the missile did not directly hit the plane.

The report said radar data obtained from the plane's computer indicated that the plane received a signal from a missile. Syrian authorities have insistently said they shot down the Turkish plane within Syrian air space with anti-aircraft guns as the plane flew at an altitude of 100 meters.

The military prosecutor's report said even though there were no indications to show that a missile impacted the plane, the plane's remains carried traces of material found in surface-to-air missiles. The report added there was no damage to the plane that might have been caused by fire from an anti-aircraft gun, as Syrian authorities suggested.

"Parts of the retrieved plane wreck were taken through metallurgic examination, and traces of potassium chlorate, which is used as an oxidizing agent in missile fuels and as the main substance in missile warheads, were found splashed on the plane's fuselage," the report said.

The report concluded that a surface-to-air missile was fired toward the Turkish plane as it flew in international air space in the eastern Mediterranean.

"The missile detonated just behind and to the left of the plane. The blast from the explosion caused the plane and the pilots to lose the capability to continue a stable flight. The plane continuously lost altitude as it banked left, until it crashed into water in a position slightly tipped to the left with the plane's nose pointing up."

The report said there were no indications of a technical malfunction that might have caused the plane to crash.
