[01] Nami carried out contacts at the House of Commons in London; He will proceed to Ankara to meet with Cavusoglu

Turkish Cypriot daily Vatan newspaper (19.02.15) reports that the so-called foreign Minister Ozdil Nami who is in London for a series of contacts, met yesterday with members of the House of Commons.

According to information acquired by the "information office" of the so-called ministry, during the meeting, views were exchanged on the possible steps that could be taken in the future in order to overcome the stalemate in the negotiations. Nami also informed the members of the House of Commons about the latest developments on the issue of the geographical registration of halloumi/hellim cheese and conveyed the Turkish Cypriot side's position on this matter.

Within the framework of his contacts in London, Nami delivered also yesterday a speech on the "Cyprus negotiations" at the London School of Economics.

Nami also met with Turkish Cypriot NGO's in London.

As the paper writes, Nami, after completing his contacts in London, is expected to proceed to Ankara tonight upon an invitation from the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Nami is expected to return to the occupied area of Cyprus on February 20.

During his London and Ankara visits, Nami is being accompanied by the "undersecretary" of the so-called foreign ministry, Erhan Ercin, his "private secretary Huseyin Ozel and "third secretary" Sertac Guven.

[02] Eroglu: I will complete the negotiation within the next two years

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris Postasi newspaper (19.02.15) reports that the Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu stated that he will complete the negotiations for the solution of the Cyprus problem within the next two years.

Eroglu who made these statements in the framework of his election campaign alleged that he truly wants a settlement to be reached and added that the "people" had enough in waiting for so many years for a solution.

"If, at the time being, I was at the negotiation table I could complete the talks within the two coming years. Our honest wish is to be able to come to an agreement. We will see if we will be able to come to an agreement or not", he stated and added that he is aware not only what the "people" want but what they expects from him.

[03] Siber for Eroglu: "He says other things at the negotiating table and other at the coffee shops"

Under the above title, Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Duzen newspaper (19.02.15) reports that Sibel Siber, "presidential candidate" with the Republican Turkish Party-United Forces (CTP-BG) in statements yesterday while visiting the occupied village of Lysi, within the framework of her election campaign, said, inter alia, that the most important duty for the "leader" of a community is to inform his "people" with honesty, to be transparent and say the truth.

Recalling that the model for the solution, according to the 1977-1979 High-Level Agreements is a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation based on the political equality, Siber accused Eroglu for creating distrust amongst the "people". "If you do not accept the solution model which is on the table, say it openly to the people, do not sign any Joint Text by force and do not apply for this duty".

Siber accused further the Turkish Cypriot leader for making different statements for "election purposes" while being at the coffee shops regarding the solution model, and different ones while sitting at the negotiating table.

Referring also to accusations against her by a Turkish Cypriot "deputy" that she does not demand the "TRNC's recognition", Siber said that she is astonished since as she said that "deputy" should have known that the Turkish Cypriot side does not have yet a "thesis for recognition".

[04] Yorgancioglu: More money to "KTTF" will not solve the problems of the Turkish Cypriot football

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (19.02.15) reports that Ozkan Yorgancioglu, self-styled prime minister of the breakaway regime in the occupied area of Cyprus, has said that more financial aid to the so-called Turkish Cypriot football federation will not solve their problems and added that what is essential is to make it possible for the Turkish Cypriots and their athletes to see themselves as "citizens of the world".

In statements yesterday, Yorgancioglu argued that the illegal visit of the president of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), Yildirim Demiroren to the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus could be evaluated as a beginning for solving the problem, but no clear stance has been exhibited on the issue of solving the problem. He noted that the issue should not be assessed as a financial problem only and argued that Demiroren's visit was "an effort to save the day".

[05] Bicakli: If the solution is FIFA, we will pass through KOP

Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Duzen newspaper (19.02.15) reports that Arslan Bicakli, chairman of the so-called football clubs' union, has recalled the statement made by the president of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), Yildirim Demiroren that the solution to the problem of the Turkish Cypriot football will be found within the framework of FIFA regulations, and stated that if the solution is FIFA, "we will pass this road through KOP", the Cyprus Football Association or CFA.

Bicakli said yesterday the 45-day deadline decided by their general assembly for the solution of the problem [on the transfers of Turkish Cypriot football players to Turkey's Regional Amateur League (BAL), without the clubs playing in that league paying any money to Turkish Cypriot clubs or acquiring any permit] is still valid and noted that this decision will be implemented, if a solution is not reached.

Criticizing the fact that Demiroren did not visit the headquarters of the "KTFF", Bicakli argued that TFF's chairman should have held a meeting at "KTFF" and added that "solving the KOP issue is not a job of the president of the republic", as he described the Turkish Cypriot leader.

[06] Turkish Cypriot columnist stresses that the reason for the "embargoes" is the unilateral declaration of the breakaway regime

Under the title "The only way is KOP!" Turkish Cypriot columnist Serhat Incirli writes in Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (19.02.15) that the reason for the so-called embargoes and isolation of the Turkish Cypriots is the unilateral declaration of the breakaway regime on 15 November 1983. Incirli comments on the statements made by the president of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), Yildirim Demiroren during his illegal visit to the occupied area of Cyprus and notes that what he has clearly said is that "if your youth will compete under the roof or the flag of a 'state', this state and flag will be the state of the Republic of Cyprus and the flag of the Republic of Cyprus".

Incirli adds, inter alia, the following: "He wanted to tell us that 'the state you have declared on 15 November 1983 is of no use'. And he wanted to tell us that 'as long as you say that your state will live eternally, your crying ceremonies will continue'. [?] Upon an initiative by late Ahmet Sami Topcan in 1972, the Turkish Cypriot football teams had been allowed to play special marches on the condition of securing FIFA's permission. This permission expired on 15 November 1983. [?] The reason for the embargoes and the isolations is 15 November 1983. Do not get angry with anyone. Do not swear at anyone. [?] Sit where you are and think twice.

One: There is nothing called TRNC and the chance for doing sports as TRNC is zero.

Two: Will you go over Turkey like the YDU women's basketball team, the Besparmak handball team [?]? Is your calculation that all our athletes will try their luck as 'Turkish citizens'? I do not know, but there is no 'TRNC flag'! There is no 'TRNC state'. You should forget these.

Three: Turkey will immediately, officially, legally and de facto annex these Cyprus' lands, which it 'controls' (I am very polite here, what to do). It will declare that it has annexed them. Then you will establish one or may be two teams and you may start from the scratch in Turkey's leagues [?]

In 1972 they allowed you to play special matches with FIFA's permission. You have declared a state in order for increasing the 'right of Rauf Denktas to be elected as president, which was limited in the KTFD's [Translator's note: Turkish Cypriot Federate State] constitution. You messed up. Potatoes, oranges [sectors] have gone bankrupt for this reason. Their sales abroad stopped. For this reason the football permits have been annulled. [?]"

[07] The Head of the Religious Department of the breakaway regime and two more "bureaucrats" to apply for parliament candidates for AKP

Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris Postasi newspaper (19.02.15) reports that the Head of the Religious Department of the breakaway regime Talip Atalay will apply to be a parliament candidate of the ruling in Turkey Justice and Development Party (AKP) for the general election to be held in Turkey on June 7.

According to the paper, Atalay who is one of the 500 bureaucrats to apply for the AKP candidacy stated that he will not resign from his duties and will continue as Head of the Department until this Friday. He said he would be in Turkey as of next week to work on his campaign. Atalay said there was no situation at present which necessitated his resignation as Head of Religious Affairs. His candidacy would be ascertained on April 7th.

In addition, the paper writes that two more "bureaucrats" in the breakaway regime will also apply to be candidates for AKP. They are the 1st undersecretary of the "Turkish embassy" to occupied Lefkosia, Seyit Mehmet Apak and the director of Ziraat Bank, Mahmut Demirci.

[10] Putin stated that Russia would not refuse to cooperate with Turkey on a new undersea gas pipeline

Turkish daily Sabah newspaper (19.02.15) reports that the Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia would not refuse to cooperate with Turkey on a new undersea gas pipeline.

Speaking at a joint news conference in Budapest with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Putin said that the South Stream gas pipeline, which was to have pumped Russian gas under the Black Sea into southern Europe, was ruined by European objections. Putin offered a new gas pipeline route via the Black Sea to reach Turkey's northwestern region of Thrace, dubbed the Turkish Stream, which would also involve a gas hub at the Turkish-Greek border to transfer gas further into Europe.
