PARIS - French European Affairs Minister Michel Barnier warned British Prime
Minister John Major on Sunday that anti-European rhetoric could lead to more
electoral defeats for Britain's Conservatives and urged him to support closer
European unity.

OTRANTO, Italy - European Union farm ministers gathered here on Sunday to
discuss fears that new free trade pacts would ruin EU farmers but their talks
were likely to be overshadowed by the mad cow disease crisis.

BRUSSELS - Farm Commissioner Franz Fischler has agreed to add mad cow disease
