[01] Mostar election dispute on GAC
SARAJEVO - European Union foreign ministers on Monday will meet in Brussels to
try to salvage municipal elections in Bosnia's third-largest city of Mostar,
diplomats in Sarajevo said on Sunday. The elections were thrown into doubt
after political parties based on the city's Moslem east bank failed to
register by a Friday midnight deadline in a protest against voting rules they
say penalize non-Croats displaced from Mostar by war.</H3>
[02] EU mulls study into "mad cow"
BRUSSELS - The European Union should consider setting up a group of scientific
advisers to review the possible link between mad cow disease and its deadly
human equivalent, a new European Commission report says.
[03] Chirac/Kohl to step up defence
BONN - French President Jacques Chirac and Germany's Chancellor Helmut Kohl
have agreed to step up defence and security cooperation, a German government
spokesman said.
[04] EU fights for Asian market access
BRUSSELS - The European Union stepped up its fight for Asian market access on
Friday, turning to the World Trade Organisation for help in settling a long-
running dispute with South Korea over telecommunications equipment, the
European Commission said.

TOKYO - Trade Commissioner Sir Leon Brittan reaffirmed on Friday that the
European Union did not want to be left out of any semiconductor agreement
between the United States and Japan.
[06] Japan says no talks on chips
TOKYO - Japan will soon notify Washington it has no intention of holding
government talks on renewing a semiconductor accord unless the two countries'
private sectors reach an agreement, the Kyodo news agency reported on
Saturday.
[07] Danish tennis ball deal
BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on Friday its main objections had been
met regarding a tennis ball deal between the Danish Tennis Federation and ball
distributors.
[08] ISAB/ENEL power supply deal
BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on Friday it was planning to clear a
power supply agreement between MEC Priolo BV and ERG SpA's subsidiary ISAB
SpA, on the one hand, and Italian eletricity distributor ENEL SpA.
[09] Leaded petrol banned from 2000
BRUSSELS - Leaded petrol could be banned for use in motor vehicles from
January 1, 2000 according to draft European Commission proposals on fuel
quality, said a draft proposal seen by Reuters.
BRUSSELS - Russia's envoy to Brussels held talks with NATO's 16 members on
Friday focusing on the multinational peace mission in Bosnia and progress to
resolve a long-running dispute over arms control treaties.
