[01] UK to continue disrupting EU
BRUSSELS - British Foreign Secretary Malcolm Rifkind pledged on Tuesday
that London would keep up its campaign of disrupting European Union
business, if necessary through and beyond this month's European Council in
Florence.
Commission to make decision on BSE BRUSSELS - The European Commission
can only take a political decision to lift the ban on British beef derivatives
on Wednesday, a Commission official said on Tuesday.

LUXEMBOURG - Britain vetoed at least 10 crimefighting measures at the justice
and internal affairs Council on Tuesday.
[03] Talks on fruit, veg reform
BRUSSELS - The Italian EU Presidency and European Commission held private
talks with member states on Tuesday afternoon on proposals to reform the fresh
and processed fruit and vegetables marketing regimes, officials said.

BRUSSELS - Ireland's impressive record of strong economic growth, moderate
inflation and budgetary rigour puts it on a solid path towards participation
in a single European currency, the European Commission said on Tuesday.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission said in a statement on Tuesday it had
cleared a joint venture between U.S. companies Caterpillar Inc and Emerson
Electric Co for the development and manufacture of diesel generator set.

BRUSSELS - Competition Commissioner Karel Van Miert said on Tuesday the
European Commission had a few problems with a pact between Banque Bruxelles
Lambert SA's major shareholders to control the bank.

BRUSSELS - Competition Commissioner Karel Van Miert said on Tuesday he was
concerned about media alliances dominating their markets and was working to
develop a coherent strategy for deciding whether to clear them.

BEIJING - China and the United States are almost certain to reach last-minute
agreement in a row over intellectual property piracy before tit-for-tat trade
sanctions kick in on June 17, industry analysts said on Tuesday.

BERLIN - NATO held out hopes on Tuesday that Moscow was softening its
opposition to the alliance's enlargement plans, after foreign ministers agreed
