[01] EU reaches farm price accord
BRUSSELS - European Union farm ministers on Wednesday reached a farm price
accord in which more farm land will be brought into production to ease grain
shortages, an EU official said.

BRUSSELS - The Commission has been aware since early June of research evidence
that mad cow disease can infect sheep, Farm Commissioner Franz Fischler said
on Wednesday.
[03] Concession over set-aside
BRUSSELS - The EU's Irish presidency made a concession to France over set-
aside on Tuesday in a bid to wrap up a deal on fallow land for the 1997 grain
harvest, European Union diplomats said.

BRUSSELS - European Union farm ministers agreed early on Wednesday to cut the
monthly sugar storage refund from 45 Ecus per tonne to 42 Ecus per tonne for
1996/97, Irish Farm Minister Ivan Yates said.

LONDON - British trade minister Ian Lang said on Tuesday that his country's
competition authorities will examine the proposed alliance between British
Airways and American Airlines under European competition rules. In BRUSSELS, a
European Commission source said he saw no problems with UK competition
authorities examining the proposed alliance.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission is set to authorise on Wednesday the
payment of the third and final tranche of a massive state aid package to Air
France, despite some internal criticism about the airline's behaviour.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission is set to propose on Wednesday that the
World Trade Organisation ministerial meeting in Singapore next December create
a working party to study ways to promote core labour standards.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission is set to adopt on Wednesday a green paper
on the key social issues connected to the development of the information
society, Commission officials said.
[09] Sexual harassment consultation
BRUSSELS - European Union member states have not taken strong enough action to
prevent sexual harassment in the workplace and some kind of new legislation
may be needed, the European Commission is expected to say on Wednesday.
[10] New Turkish import taxes
BRUSSELS, Jul - The European Commission is seeking more information from
Turkey after Ankara said it planned to slap import taxes on certain EU
consumer goods.

BRUSSELS - The European Union has initialled an agreement with Australia and
New Zealand that will allow for exports to undergo standards checks in their
country of origin.

European Commissioners Bangemann, Flynn and Monti hold joint news conference

news conference on five billion francs in state aid to French state-owned
carrier Air France at 1045 GMT; communication on internationally recognised
labour standards in the world trade system.

member states and China, Japan, Korea and seven ASEAN nations meet (first of
two days); main discussions focus on ways of improving the investment climate
worldwide and on preparing ground for concrete measures to increase trade
