    BRUSSELS - The European Union on Tuesday launched a multilingual Internet campaign and unveiled other advertising plans to build support among the region's 370 million citizens for the border-free market.

    [02] Commission on car spare parts

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission's drive to force large car manufacturers to allow smaller ones to copy their spare parts gained a reprieve on Tuesday at the Internal Market Council.

    [03] Customs 2000 adopted

    BRUSSELS - The Internal Market Council on Tuesday formally adopted the Customs 2000 programme, EU officials said.

    [04] Agreement on public markets

    BRUSSELS - The Internal Market Council struck a common position on Tuesday on a proposal to adapt the EU's public procurement directives to take account of the Government Procurement Agreement operated within the World Trade Organisation.

    [05] Saint Gobain/Wacker Chemie

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission will block on Wednesday a plan to merge the silicon carbide interests of French glass-making giant Saint-Gobain, Germany's Wacker- Chemie and Dutch state-owned investment firm NOM, EU sources said on Tuesday.

    [06] Possible Anglo/Lonrho deal

    BRUSSELS - The odds improved on Tuesday that Anglo-American Corp of South Africa will get EU approval for its stake in Lonrho with EU Competition Commissioner Karel Van Miert saying a solution to the competition problems it raised was being sought.

    [07] German energy mergers

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on Tuesday it had referred a plan by RWE Energy AG to take a 50 percent stake in Thyssengas GmbH to the German bundeskartelamt competition authority.

    [08] Zaire refugees-Bonino

    BRUSSELS - Troops should go to eastern Zaire now and they should use force, if they have to, to get access to refugees and other people stranded there, EU aid chief Emma Bonino said on Tuesday .

    [09] Court on banana importer relief

    LUXEMBOURG - The European Court of Justice ruled on Monday that the EC treaty does not allow national courts to order provisional relief for banana importers hit by import rule changes until the European Commission has laid down hardship rules.

    [10] EU concerned about Belarus poll

    BRUSSELS - The European Union said on Thursday it was still seriously concerned about events in Belarus and urged that last Sunday's referendum on presidential powers be considered consultative, not binding.

    BRUSSELS - European Commission regular weekly meeting begins at 0800 GMT; expected to block deal between Saint-Gobain, Wacker-Chemie and NOM.

    BRUSSELS - The Greens in the European Parliament news conference on "Europe: priority to social union and policy - an urgency for the inter-governmental conference (IGC)" begins at 0930 GMT.

    BRUSSELS - MEPs Karl von Wogau and Christa Randzio-Plath joint news conference following the debate on EMU begins at 1700 GMT.

    BRUSSELS - Economic and Social Committee plenary session begins at 1300 GMT (first of two days).

    BRUSSELS - Finnish Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen holds news conference at 1530 GMT.

    LUXEMBOURG - Irish Prime Minister and Council President John Bruton on official visit; discussions focus on the preparation of the Dublin European Council of December 13-14; meets Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Paul Juncker at 1000 GMT in the Chateau de Septfontaines.
