BRUSSELS - The European Union and Japan have settled a long-running feud over
alcohol tax after Tokyo agreed to harmonise tariffs on domestic and imported
liquor within two years.
[02] EU to probe fax dumping claim
BRUSSELS - The European Commission has launched an investigation into
allegations that seven Asian nations are dumping personal fax machines in
Europe.

LUXEMBOURG - The European Court of Justice dismissed on Tuesday six separate
but related challenges from Belgium and Germany to European Commission
measures permitting banana imports from third countries into the EU.
[04] US/EU/WTO on Cuba
DAVOS, Switzerland - The United States, furious with the European Union for
bringing their dispute over Cuba to the World Trade Organisation, seems likely
to refuse to cooperate with a WTO panel, diplomats said on Tuesday.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on Tuesday it was starting a routine
probe into the proposed acquisition of French airline Air Liberte by British
Airways.

BRUSSELS - European consumer organisations urged the European Union on Monday
to strengthen its car safety legislation to take account of new crash tests
showing that some vehicles posed a risk to passengers and pedestrians.
