    BRUSSELS - The European Commission has cleared a plan by Cereol Holding BBV, which belongs to Eridania Beghin, to buy a 50-percent stake in oilseed processor Olmuhle GmbH from Austrian holding company OSAT, an EU source said.

    [02] Nuclear venture/EU merger rules

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission has decided that a joint venture between Russian state-controlled company AO Techsnabexport and RSB Logistic Projektspedition GmbH, will not be reviewed under EU merger rules, an EU source said.

    BRUSSELS - The European Union's position remains unchanged ahead of a resumption of negotiations with the United States next week on meat inspection rules, a European Commission spokesman said.

    BRUSSELS - European Union scientists expressed doubts about the safety of British gelatine, raising prospects that an EU export ban on the beef by- product may soon be restored.

    BAD HOFGASTEIN, Austria - German Chancellor Helmut Kohl cheered his party and coalition partners with a surprise announcement that he planned to stand for re-election in 1998 for an unprecedented fifth term.

    NAPLES, Italy - NATO said it had cancelled a nine-nation military exercise due to have begun in Spain next week because some states had a clash of commitments, including participation in a United Nations- approved security force for Albania.
