    LUXEMBOURG - The Consumer Affairs Council struck a common position on the directive on injunctions for the protection of consumer interests after difficult negotiations with Germany and Britain.

    [02] Commission/consumer-EMU conference

    LUXEMBOURG - The European Commission will hold a round table on May 15 on the consumer policy aspects of economic and monetary union, Consumer Affairs Commissioner Emma Bonino said on Thursday.

    LUXEMBOURG - Financial institutions in the European Union will have to apply a common formula for calculating the cost of consumer credit under an agreement reached by the EU's Consumer Affairs Council.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission is expected to show that Germany will be unable to bring its 1997 budget deficit down to three percent of Gross Domestic Product, a Portuguese newspaper reported.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission said it had cleared a move by German company Rheinbraun Brennstoff GmbH, a unit of electricity group RWE, to acquire full control of Italian company Agenzia Carbonia Srl.

    BRUSSELS - British Telecommunications Plc said it remained confident that the European Commission would clear its merger with MCI Communications of the United States.
