  • [01] Commission clears Reckitt Benckiser merger (UK / Netherlands)

The European Commission has cleared the merger between the UK company Reckitt & Colman plc and the Dutch company Benckiser N.V., both of which manufacture and supply a range of branded domestic cleaning products. The new group will be named Reckitt Benckiser. Although the operation is largely complementary both in terms of products and geographic scope, there are some products where Reckitt Benckiser will be market leader with important market shares both at the European Economic Area (EEA) level and in two EEA Member States. However, the new group will continue to face strong competition. In addition, significant national and international customers in the form of major multiple food retail chains and multiple drug chains represent an additional competitive constraint. The merger will not therefore create or strengthen a dominant position.

[04] A special issue of the Bosnian magazine "Zavicaj" on Commission funded return projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina

What are the concrete results of all the numerous return projects which are funded by the European Commission and implemented by Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) ? Do people really return to their homes under these so-called "integrated" projects ? What do the beneficiary families think of the support they receive from the European taxpayer ? These are the main questions to which 16 Bosnian journalists tried to find a concrete answer. "Making return possible" is the title of the special issue of the Bosnian magazine "Zavicaj" which has just come out of press. It is the result of a fruitful collaboration between the editors of Zavicaj in Banja Luka and the journalists attending the Mediaplan journalism school in Sarajevo. Sixteen journalists visited 22 sites all over Bosnia where organisations carry out reconstruction and job creation activities on behalf of the Commission to encourage families to return. They interviewed NGO personnel, local authorities and beneficiary families in order to get a clear picture of the situation in the different villages and towns where these return projects take place. The magazine is targeted to potential returnees, in order to give them a maximum of practical information on the projects carried out in their region of origin, including useful names and telephone numbers. This special issue of 32 pages has been printed in separate Bosnian and English versions. The Bosnian version will be mailed to Bosnian refugees still hosted in European Union Member States through the database of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). In Bosnia it will be distributed through the usual Zavicaj channels and through NGOs.
