[01] Les prélèvements pour dépassement des quotas laitiers s'élèvent à 277
millions d'€, selon les calculs de la Commission
Selon un calcul provisoire présenté par la Commission européenne sur la
base des déclarations annuelles des Etats membres, le montant des
prélèvements des Etats membres ayant dépassé leurs quotas laitiers au cours
de la période 2001/2002 s'élèverait à 277 millions d'€ pour l'ensemble de
l'Union européenne alors qu'il était de 292 millions d'€ l'an dernier. Le
dépassement global pour l'ensemble de l'UE s'élève à 450.000 tonnes.
[02] Commission clears acquisition of PwC consulting by IBM
The European Commission has approved the acquisition of Pricewaterhouse
Coopers's (PwC) consulting business by International Business Machines
Corp. (IBM). A careful analysis of the transaction has shown that IBM's
share of the IT services market will not be significantly altered and that
consumers will continue to benefit from sufficient choice and innovation in
the sector. The acquisition only concerns the consulting business of PwC,
not its accounting and corporate finance or other activities.

European Employment and Social Affairs Commissioner Anna Diamantopoulou,
addressing the Club "Travail, Emploi, Société" in Paris tomorrow 25
September 2002, will say that "social policy is not simply a way of
spending the fruits of economic success. Rather it is a key input to
success". She will add that "we see social expenditures on education,
training and health as investments rather than current expenditures. We see
poverty and ill health as costly. And we see social transfers as playing a
cyclical supporting role for the economy, as well as welfare role".
