The precise reasons why this happened are presently being examined by the Union for the Coordination of Transmission of Electricity (UCTE) and more information is expected to be provided later today.[02] Autumn economic forecasts 2006-2008 : solid growth and unemployment and deficits fallingEconomic growth in 2006 is set to reach 2.8% in the European Union and 2.6% in the euro area, up from 1.7% and 1.4% in 2005, according to the European Commission's autumn economic forecasts. The main impulses are robust growth in domestic demand, especially investment, and sustained global growth. The economic activity should ease somewhat in 2007 and 2008 reflecting the global outlook and, in particular, the slowdown in the United States. Yet, GDP growth is projected to remain around potential in the next two years (EU: 2.4% in both 2007 and 2008 ; euro area: 2.1% in 2007 and 2.2% in 2008). The EU as a whole is expected to create 7 million new jobs over the period 2006-2008 (5 million in the euro area). This will help increase the employment rate from 63¾% in 2005 to 65½% in 2008 while reducing unemployment from a peak of more than 9% of the labour force in 2004 to 7.3% in 2008 in the EU (7.4% in the euro area). A cet égard, beaucoup sont conscients de l'aide qu'apporte le Fonds social européen aux travailleurs qui souhaitent améliorer leurs compétences et leurs perspectives d'emploi.[04] EU job situation improves, but new reform push needed to hit 2010 targetThe employment situation in the EU continued to improve in 2005 despite a temporary slowdown in economic growth, according to the 'Employment in Europe 2006' report, published by the European Commission today. Reforms are producing results. Unemployment in the EU fell by almost half a percentage point (to 8.7% from 9.1% in the previous year) while employment growth almost doubled to 0.9%. Nevertheless, the Union continues to under- perform both in terms of employment and productivity growth in relation to EU targets. A stronger drive to implement comprehensive reforms is a matter of urgency.[05] Des fonctionnaires de l'UE vont travailler dans des PMEDes fonctionnaires de l'UE vont quitter leurs bureaux bruxellois pour passer une semaine dans diverses petites et moyennes entreprises (PME) un peu partout en Europe afin d'y acquérir une expérience pratique. Le projet "Expérience en entreprise" est destiné à donner à ces fonctionnaires une expérience du fonctionnement quotidien des entreprises européennes et ainsi d'améliorer leur compréhension de l'environnement au sein duquel évoluent ces entreprises. Les 50 fonctionnaires de la première vague auront l'occasion de travailler dans des entreprises autrichiennes, chypriotes, allemandes, grecques, hongroises, italiennes, portugaises, roumaines, slovènes et espagnoles. L'objectif est, sur une période de deux ans, d'envoyer des stagiaires un peu partout dans l'UE afin de garantir une couverture géographique équilibrée. Les fonctionnaires travailleront dans des PME actives dans des secteurs comme l'aéronautique, les produits pharmaceutiques, la restauration et l'hôtellerie, les technologies de l'information, la construction des machines, l'industrie chimique et l’industrie textile, observeront le personnel clé en situation de travail et acquerront une expérience dans différents départements de l'entreprise. Après une phase pilote réussie qui s'est déroulée en 2005 et au début 2006 (IP/06/996), la Commission européenne lance aujourd'hui formellement la première vague du programme.[06] Commission clears joint venture between Thales and DiehlThe European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of joint control by Thales S.A. of France and Diehl Stiftung & Co. KG (Diehl) of Germany of part of the undertakings TDA Armements SAS (France), Thales Munitronic BV (The Netherlands), Forges de Zeebrugge (Belgium), currently controlled by Thales, and Junghans Feinwerktechnik GmbH & Co KG (Germany), currently controlled by Diehl. Diehl is active mainly in the areas of metals, controls, and defence and aviation. Thales is active in the field of defence, aerospace and civilian security technology. Through the joint venture the two companies will confer their respective assets for the production and sale of fuses for ammunition (the part of the ammunition that initiates detonation) and Safety and Arming Devices (SAD) for missiles. Les fonds sont acheminés par l'intermédiaire du service d’aide humanitaire de la Commission (ECHO), placé sous la responsabilité du commissaire Louis Michel.[08] Climate change : Commission looks for progress from UN ministerial conference in NairobiThe European Commission will be seeking further global progress in the battle against climate change at the annual United Nations climate change conference which starts in Nairobi today and runs until 17 November. European Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas will participate in the high-level segment from 15-17 November. This is the first world climate change conference held in sub-Saharan Africa and accordingly it will have a special focus on the needs of Africa and other developing countries. The other key agenda topic will be discussion of what further action the international community should take to combat climate change after 2012, when the Kyoto Protocol emission targets expire. Based on Eurostat data, it provides a thousand tables and graphs describing the European Union's agricultural trade position in the world as well as detailed trade information - per chapter and/or at aggregated product level and by region - in values and quantities.
