  • [01] Une enquête fait le point sur la santé en ligne en Europe et invite les médecins utiliser davantage les technologies de l'information et de la communication

    La Commission européenne a publié aujourd’hui les résultats d’une enquête sur les services électroniques dans le secteur des soins de santé (eHealth, santé en ligne) menée l'échelon européen, qui montre que 87% des médecins généralistes européens utilisent un ordinateur, avec, dans 48% des cas, une connexion haut débit. Les médecins européens sont de plus nombreux avoir recours l’archivage et l’envoi électroniques des données relatives leurs patients, comme les résultats d’analyses. L’utilisation d’applications de santé en ligne par les médecins et les services médicaux a déj permis d’améliorer les soins de santé en Europe, notamment en rendant l'administration plus efficace et en raccourcissant les temps d’attente pour les patients. Les résultats de l’enquête montrent aussi dans quels domaines les médecins pourraient optimiser l'utilisation des TIC afin de promouvoir des services tels que la télésurveillance, les prescriptions électroniques ou les services médicaux transfrontaliers.

    [02] Le forum UE-USA de haut niveau pour la coopération réglementaire se réunit aujourd'hui Bruxelles

    Créé lors du sommet UE-USA en 2005, le forum de haut niveau pour la coopération réglementaire se réunit aujourd’hui Bruxelles. Afin d'éviter toute divergence inutile entre les réglementations de l’UE et des USA, le forum rassemble des experts de haut rang pour comparer les expériences et identifier les meilleures pratiques. La réunion d’aujourd’hui sera consacrée aux efforts communs nécessaires au renforcement de la coopération transatlantique relative la sécurité des produits importés. Cet après-midi, les experts rencontreront les représentants d’entreprises et de consommateurs et discuteront de la façon dont l’UE et les USA consultent leur opinion publique au moment d'élaborer des réglementations.

    [03] Commission increases support to Belarusian students studying abroad

    Today, the Commission allocates €1 million to support the European Humanities University (EHU) in exile in Vilnius. The EHU is currently the only independent Belarusian University that allows Belarusian students to study without political interference. The allocation is financed under the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) and forms part of the Commission’s continuing efforts to support Belarusian civil society and in particular Belarusian students and youth. This allocation will be paid into a designated Trust Fund for the EHU, which is being set up by the Nordic Council of Ministers. The Commission is the first donor to commit funds to the Trust Fund, which will be open for financial contributions from all international donors to the EHU.

    [04] Déclaration du Commissaire Louis Michel sur la situation politique au Tchad

    Le Commissaire au Développement et l'Aide Humanitaire, Louis Michel, salue la décision du nouveau Premier Ministre du Tchad Monsieur Youssouf Saleh Abbas d'avoir ouvert la composition du gouvernement des membres respectés de l'opposition politique non armée afin de relever les défis multiples auxquels le Tchad est actuellement confronté.

    [05] La Commission lance une consultation pour préparer un plan d'action communautaire relatif l'énergie éolienne en mer

    La Commission européenne invite les investisseurs, les promoteurs de projets, les constructeurs d'éoliennes, les entreprises du secteur énergétique, les services publics, les ONG de défense de l'environnement et toutes les autres parties intéressées, y compris les citoyens dans leur ensemble, recenser les obstacles qui s'opposent la poursuite du développement de l'énergie éolienne en Europe et trouver des moyens de les surmonter.

    [06] Vice-President Jacques Barrot welcomes the enhanced cooperation between the EU and Russia in the field of freedom, security and justice

    On the occasion of the eighth EU-Russia Permanent Partnership Council (PPC) on Justice and Home Affairs, Vice-President Jacques Barrot highlights the progress the EU and Russia have made in implementing their Common Space of Freedom, Security and Justice.

    [07] Court orders ban on spring hunting in Malta

    The European Court of Justice yesterday gave its decision in a case concerning the spring hunting of birds in Malta. In response to the Commission's request for interim measures, the Court concluded that the Maltese authorities should not adopt legislation permitting the hunting of birds during the spring period in 2008.

    [08] Joe Borg visits South West England

    European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Joe Borg will be travelling to the UK this weekend, where he will spend Monday meeting with regional policy decision-makers, members of the European Parliament for the South West, experts and stakeholders in the region. The South West has made an important contribution to the consultation process that led to the Commission's action plan for an integrated maritime policy, adopted last October. The visit will provide an opportunity to discuss the significance of the action plan in a region with a long maritime history, and where over 60% of the population live within 10km of the coast. Good practices developed in South West England for integrated management of maritime activities will also be discussed. Mr Borg's visit will begin in Exmouth on Monday morning with an informal breakfast briefing with local politicians and stakeholders, highlighting some of the innovative maritime sector projects in the region. The Commissioner will then embark for a boat trip along the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in the company of local maritime stakeholders. From there, he will proceed to Plymouth for an informal lunch with elected representatives and maritime experts. After lunch, Mr Borg will formally inaugurate the Plymouth Marine Skills Centre. His visit will conclude with a visit to the city's historic South Yard dockyard, showcasing the work of the Plymouth Marine Science Partnership.

    [09] European Commission and Russia agree to strengthen dialogue on fisheries

    Commissioner Joe Borg and the Chairman of the State Committee for Fisheries of the Russian Federation, Mr Andrey Krainiy, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on dialogue on fisheries. The aim of this memorandum is to facilitate communication on fisheries issues between the two parties, build trust and understanding, and strengthen their mutual cooperation. Commissioner Borg commented: “I warmly welcome this new step in our working relationship. Our Russian colleagues fully share our commitment towards sustainable fisheries and the fight against illegal fishing throughout the world. I trust that today’s agreement will form the basis for new avenues in our cooperation and will help to break down any barriers or misunderstandings.” The EU and Russia have a long history of cooperation in fisheries, in particular in the North Atlantic and the Baltic Sea. The memorandum sets up a framework for closer contacts between the European Commission and the State Committee, to improve the information flow related to conservation, management of fish stocks, trade in fisheries products and the different aspects of policy making; to enhance cooperation in the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU); to improve coordination of the EU and Russian positions in international fisheries organisations such as the North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC) and the North-west Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO) and to enhance scientific cooperation. The memorandum of understanding is part of a wider process of improving EU-Russian contacts, which was agreed at the EC-Russia summit in 2005. Similar memoranda have been signed in other policy areas.

    [10] Commission clears joint venture between Dow and Chevron

    The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of joint control of Americas Styrenics, a newly created company constituting a joint venture, by Dow Chemical Company (Dow) and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron), both of the US. Dow produces chemicals, plastic materials, agricultural products and other specialised products and services. Chevron supplies petrochemical products, specialty chemicals and plastics. The joint venture will produce styrene and polystyrene. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

    [11] Commission clears acquisition of Jaguar and Land Rover business of Ford by Tata Motors Limited

    The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of the Jaguar and Land Rover business (JLR) of the US Ford Motor Company (Ford) by Tata Motors Limited of India. Tata Motors manufactures passenger cars, commercial vehicles and buses primarily in India and sells light commercial vehicles and passenger cars in the EEA. Jaguar mainly manufactures luxury passenger cars; Land Rover produces sports utility vehicles (SUVs).The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

    [12] EU Commissioner Louis Michel calls for assurance on Gaza fuel supply

    Louis Michel, the European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, has called upon Israel to ensure delivery of fuel supplies to Gaza. This follows the United Nations warning that its humanitarian efforts there would have to stop in the coming hours because of lack of fuel for its vehicles. The United Nation's said on Wednesday that unless petrol was allowed into Gaza, then its humanitarian relief agency UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency) and the WFP (World Food Programme) would be forced to discontinue their food assistance to more than over a million Gazans.

    [13] La Commission européenne s'efforce d'améliorer sa communication dans les médias audiovisuels

    Dans une communication intitulée «Communiquer sur l’Europe dans les médias audiovisuels», la Commission a annoncé des mesures visant assurer une couverture plus large des affaires européennes sur les stations de radio, les chaînes de télévision et les plateformes multimédias. Elle incite les professionnels des médias audiovisuels constituer des réseaux audiovisuels européens. Elle proposera notamment un réseau de chaînes de télévision qui viendra compléter le réseau de stations de radio déj lancé le 1er avril 2008. La Commission augmentera également le nombre de produits audiovisuels bruts qu'elle fournit déj gratuitement aux professionnels des médias et accroîtra sa propre production de vidéos illustrant ou expliquant les politiques communautaires.
