[01] Des voitures qui parlent: la Commission réserve une fréquence unique
pour la sécurité routière et la gestion du trafic
Dans le cadre de la lutte qu'elle mène contre les accidents de la route et
les embouteillages, la Commission a décidé aujourd'hui de réserver
partout en Europe une partie du spectre radioélectrique en faveur des
systèmes de communication intelligents pour véhicules (appelés
«systèmes coopératifs»). Ces systèmes se fondent sur une technologie
de communication sans fil et permettent aux véhicules de communiquer avec
d'autres véhicules ainsi qu'avec les fournisseurs d'infrastructure
routière. Par exemple, ils peuvent avertir d'autres automobilistes que les
routes sont glissantes ou qu'un accident vient de se produire. Les
systèmes de communication intelligents pour véhicules peuvent améliorer
la sécurité et faciliter la vie des automobilistes européens: en 2006,
dans l'Union européenne, plus de 42 000 personnes ont perdu la vie dans un
accident de la route et plus d' 1,6 million y ont été blessées, tandis
que chaque jour, sur les routes de l'UE, il se forme quelque 7 500 km de
bouchons. La décision prise aujourd'hui par la Commission vise à inciter
l'industrie automobile à investir dans les systèmes de communication
intelligents pour véhicules, tout en encourageant l'investissement public
dans l'infrastructure routière.
[02] Haïti: La Commission fournit €3 million d'aide humanitaire pour
améliorer la santé et la nutrition
La Commission Européenne a alloué €3 million pour venir en aide aux
victimes de la crise socio-économique en Haïti. Cette aide humanitaire
bénéficiera avant tout aux femmes et aux enfants vivant dans les zones
rurales. Les fonds sont destinés à assurer des besoins urgents en matière
de santé, de services d'approvisionnement en eau et d’assainissement, de
sécurité alimentaire et de lutte contre la malnutrition, pour près de 1,
5 million de personnes.
[03] Volume of retail trade down by 0.6% in euro area
In June 2008, compared with May 2008, the volume of retail trade fell by
0.6% in the euro area (EA15) and by 1.0% in the EU27. In May retail trade
increased by 0.5% and by 0.9% respectively. In June 2008, compared with
June 2007, the retail sales index decreased by 3.1% in the euro area and by
1.1% in the EU27. These first estimates come from Eurostat, the Statistical
Office of the European Communities.
[04] Enregistrement de trois dénominations de produits agricoles
La Commission européenne a ajouté trois dénominations de produits
agricoles et alimentaires à la liste des appellations d'origine protégées
(AOP) et indications géographiques protégées (IGP). Il s'agit de
"Brussels grondwitloof" (Belgique – légume – IGP), "Oeufs de Loué"
(France - IGP) et "Acciughe sotto sale del Mar Ligure" (Italie – poisson
– IGP). Les trois dénominations s'ajoutent à la liste d'environ 800
produits déjà protégés en vertu de la législation sur la protection des
indications géographiques, des appellations d'origine et des spécialités

[05] Commission invites submission of posters for forthcoming conference on
School Fruit Scheme
On 8 July 2008, the European Commission presented its proposal for the
introduction of an EU-wide School Fruit Scheme (SFS). In order to kick-
start the linked networking activities, the Commission is now organising a
major conference, bringing together experts from all Member states. This
event will take place in Brussels in December 2008. As part of this
conference there will be a poster exhibition of best practice models to
provide SFS project promoters and stakeholders with examples for
establishing or improving a School Fruit Scheme. Interested parties are now
invited to submit models as posters for this exhibition. These posters must
be designed to deliver 'operational' information in an easily
understandable way. The posters will be exhibited during the conference and
published on the Europa website. Full details on how to submit best

[06] Commission clears acquisition of APB by Burani
The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger
Regulation to the acquisition of joint control of APB S.r.l. of Italy by
Antichi Pellettieri S.p.A., indirectly controlled by Burani Designer
Holding N.V. of the Netherlands and certain funds belonging to the 3i Group
plc of the UK. Burani is a holding company with subsidiaries active in the
luxury goods, food, clothing and cosmetics sectors. 3i is an international
private equity group. APB is active in production and distribution of
luxury leather goods, in particular handbags and other accessories, under
the brand names Braccialini, Biasia, Mandarina Duck and Coccinelle. The
operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

[07] EU response to floods in Romania, Ukraine and Moldova
The widespread flooding in Moldova, Ukraine and Romania has triggered a
rapid and effective response from the European Commission and the EU Member
States. EU Member States have offered vital assistance through the EU Civil
Protection Mechanism involving boats, pumps, generators, water purification
and emergency equipment is now well under way. The EU's Monitoring and
Information Centre (MIC) dispatched experts to facilitate the coordination
of the relief effort on the ground in Moldova and Ukraine. Furthermore, a
European Commission humanitarian aid expert is currently in Ukraine to
asses the needs.
