[01] We will safeguard the public interest, says gov't VP DragasakisWe will safeguard the public interest, stated government vice president Yiannis Dragasakis in an interview to AMNA on Sunday. "Corruption relations between politicians and political parties, banks and interests in the media sector and the entire old corruption system are being dismantled" said Dragasakis referring to the close relations of the triangle banks-parties- media.Asked on the changes in the banking map, the vice president underlined that "the banks will not operate as a closed and uncontrolled system of authority any more " and their "boards will be subjected to evaluation, transparency and control system" adding that "the crisis has shown that a banking system not linked with the needs of society, sooner or later, is led to crisis which also drags together the country's economy". On the occasion of IMF's report on the first 'rescue' programme, he said that "it was a huge mistake to not settle the debt in 2010" and underlined that the downgrading of the debt issue hides the intention to stay an unsolved problem that will be used as "a mechanism for pressure and coercion". Asked on the key that will take the economy to a clearing and if the recovery is visible, Dragasakis noted that the economies that recover are those that create job positions, increase the investments and improve the disposable income so "these factors will determine the speed and the growth rate of the economy". The government gives priority to the recovery of private investments "The activation of the new Development Law as well as the specification of the new production model and the country's new production identity along with the establishment of the new financing growth tools are expected to give a strong boost to the private investments" said Dragasakis . He clarified that for the government economic growth and social protection go hand-in-hand and underlined that today a deep reform on the new social contract is taking place silently because each person or group's request is not ignored but evaluated as incentive or occasion to institute comprehensive solutions in order to become a society of rights, responsibilities and duties, according to the new social contract that we must establish. Interior Min Balafas: General elections will be held in the autumn of 2019We are very sorry to make them sad but general elections will be held in autumn 2019, stated Deputy Interior Minister Yiannis Balafas to an interview with AMNA on Sunday.Balafas noted that "the cash flow do not worry the government" adding that "the state revenues in July exceed the target, approximately by 105 million euros" he said underlining that as stated Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos "there will be no additional measures". Referring to his ministry's priorities Balafas said that "the proposal is the new reform to seek an essential improvement in the offered services". On the occupation of public buildings, he said that "it is something very usual throughout Europe. [03] Early general elections will not come as a surprise for us, says ND spokesman Koumoutsakos"In an environment of multiple impasses nobody can exclude the possibility of serious political development" stated main opposition New Democracy (ND) spokesman Giorgos Koumoutsakos in an interview with AMNA on Sunday adding that "in this context early general elections can not be excluded and for us it will not come as a surprise".Koumoutsakos said that ND is the first political force in the country and the only alternative solution for the people that suffocate in the era of SYRIZA's governance. He said he does not rule out President of Republic election from the people but on two conditions "its disengagement from the dissolution of the parliament and the distortion of the constitutionally guaranteed regime". Referring to the Turkey, ND spokesman said that Turkey is being "transformed into an Erdogan's regime that distances Turkey from Europe" adding that EU-Turkey's agreement on migration must continue at all costs". At a question if the apparent rapprochement between Russia and Turkey will bring the South Stream pipeline on stage again, Skourletis noted that "its construction is not against the European strategies. We are positive on the prospect of its construction". He called a political success for the government the implementation of the plan for the new Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE) because as he said "guarantees the power network's public character. [09] Man's body found off Rhodes coast alleged to be missing Russian touristThe body of a man was found early Sunday at the sea area of Psaropoula near the town of Rhodes.According to first estimations the body it alleged to belong to a 40-year old Russian tourist who was reported missing last Sunday. A search to locate the missing tourist was carried out throughout the week. [10] Archaeologists unveil the story of the 'battle krater' to National Archaeological Museum visitorsThe so-called 'Battle krater' is the latest and one of the more significant artifacts to emerge from the storerooms of Athens' National Archaeological Museum was presented to visitors by the museum archaeologists on Sunday in the context of the 'Unseen Museum' programme.The large silver vessel seen by the general public for the first time was discovered in the tomb of a prince during excavations carried out by Heinrich and Sophie Schliemann in Mycenae, in 1876. The find was made in the royal tombs within Grave Circle A, where both objects and funeral rites dating back to the 16th century B.C. and previously entirely unknown to archaeologists were discovered. In addition to its great archaeological value, the vessel also had an unusual history after its discovery. Unlike other Grave Circle A finds like the golden 'Nestor's Cup' that was inside the krater, or other gold and silver cups that became famous permanent exhibits of the museum's collection, the silver sheets of the battle krater were catalogued and remained permanently in the storerooms, their real significance undiscovered. Their secret was unlocked by the archaeologist Agni Xenaki-Sakellariou and the museum's curator of the time, Christos Karouzos, almost 100 years later in the 1960s. With the help of an artist and museum restorers, the largest surviving silver artifact dating back to the Mycenaean era was reconstructed and its engraved depiction of a battle between two rival sets of warriors was restored. The two groups can be distinguished by the different shields they bear, with four fighting against four while one warrior has fallen heroically between them in battle. On August 7 and 28 and on September 16 and 25, museum archaeologists will be on hand in the Hall of the Altar at 13:00 in order to greet visitors and talk about the artifact itself, as well as the rich variety of other grave goods interred alongside it, with that same early Mycenaean-era prince.
