A strong earthquake shook the southern Greek region of the Peloponnese
on Wednesday, causing some panic, but there were no immediate reports
of damage.
The trembler, measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 8:40
a.m., with its epicentre below the seabed in the open sea, at a
distance of 120 kilometres south of the port city of Kalamata, in
Messinia prefecture, and was felt throughout the Peloponnese peninsula
and on the islands of Kythira and Crete.
Seismologists said there was no cause for alarm.
