An advisory has been issued for mariners in the Aegean, with gale-force winds from the northeast forecast into the late afternoon. Temperatures in the northern mainland between 8C-17C; 12C to 21C in the Ionian basin, the southern mainland and the Aegean. Light cloud and windy in the greater Athens area, 13C to 19C; cloudy with light rain likely in Thessaloniki, 11C to 15C. [02] Minor earthquake - Rhodes19/10/2000 10:42:08A minor earthquake, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale, was recorded at around 2 a.m. Thursday in the sea region some 30 kilometres east of the large SE Aegean holiday island of Rhodes. Police on Rhodes said the tremor was felt on the island, while no damages or injuries were reported. The event was organised by the Andreas Papandreou Foundation at the Goulandris Foundation in Plaka. Addressing the event, Vartholomeos underlined the respect shown by the deceased to the Ecumenical Patariarchate and congratulated his children for their initiatives. Also present were intellectuals, politicians and the family of Andreas Papandreou.
