[01] New airport open to public

Athens' new international airport at Spata, the 'Eleftherios Venizelos', will be opened to the public on Tuesday and Wednesday for tours around the new airport's facilities.

Those wishing to visit the new airport will be able to get there on free buses, which depart from the Ethniki Amyna metro terminal from 9:00 until 16:00 local time.

The airport will be inaugurated on March 27 by Prime Minister Costas Simitis, in the presence of President of the Republic Kostis Stephanopoulos.

[03] Weather Forecast-Tuesday

Sunshine is forecast around the country on Tuesday, with scattered cloud in the east and north. Winds variable, moderate to strong. On the northern mainland, temperatures will range from 7C to 18C; on the rest of the mainland from 9C to 23C; and in the islands from 12C to 22C. Scattered cloud in Athens during the morning with temperatures between 12C and 23C. Same in Thessaloniki, with temperatures from 9C to 18C.

[04] ASE opening: Positive climate

There was a positive climate as trading opened on the Athens Stock Exchange on Tuesday, with the general index up 0.83 per cent at 3,098.27 points and turnover at 8.6 million euros or 2.9 billion drachmas.

All individual sector indices were rising, with most gains for the textile industry with 2.67 per cent, followed by construction with 2.56 per cent.

Of the stocks traded, 246 were moving up, 20 were moving down, and 18 remained unchanged.
