A twelfth member of the crew that is still missing, Yugoslav electrician Momcilo Kocevic, may have become trapped and gone down with the ship. The Cypriot-owned freighter, which issued a distress signal late on Friday night, had set sail from the Romanian port of Constanta laden with two tonnes of iron and was bound for an Italian port in the Adriatic. According to first estimates, it probably sank when its load shifted in extremely rough seas. Authorities said that one all-weather rescue helicopter andnearby coast guard vessels were continuing the search for the missing crewman but had still not found anything on Saturday afternoon. According to the rescued crew-members, Kocevic probably did not have time to get off the ship before it sank.
