A moderate Christmas Eve earthquake shook parts of western Greece
almost an hour before midnight on Monday, with seismologists
pinpointing the 4.4 on the Richter scale tremor off the port city of
Patra.
According to a press release issued by the geodynamic institute at the
Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, the quake was recorded at
11:10 p.m. and centred in the Patraikos Gulf off west-central Greece.
Authorities said the tremor was felt throughout Achaia prefecture,
southwest of Athens, while no damages were reported.
