[02] Greek municipality's website wins IAWMD distinction

    13/04/2002 16:22:12

A recently unveiled website www.dimos-styreon.gr by the southern Evia island municipality of Styra was honored this week with the ?Golden Web Award?, bestowed by the US-based International Association of Webmasters and Designers (IAWMD) for the 2002-2003 period.

The Internet site was designed by Athens-based photographer Vassilis Kalalougas and features 110 photographs from his personal collection, with accompanying text by Mihalis Kalalougas. It first appeared on the Internet in December 2001.

The municipality of Styra, on the southern part of Evia between the Aegean Sea and the southern Evoikos Gulf, includes several villages and communities, including the namesake township of Styra.

Additionally, Kalalougas work centering on southern Evias megalithic ?Dragon Houses? and the regions landscape is also being showcased this month at the www.fotoforum.lu online gallery, which hosts photographs by members and photography professionals belonging to the prestigious Federation Internationale d Art Photographique (FIAP).

Kalalougas is the only Greek photographer whose work is being featured on the Luxembourg-based federations site.

[03] Commission reforms bring EU's Kinnock to Athens

    13/04/2002 16:19:48

Visiting EU Commission Vice-President Neil Kinnock on Friday called the Greek governments commitment to promote a set of all-important reforms aimed at the Commissions more effective operation as particularly ?significant?.

Kinnock, the former EU Commissioner for transports, made the statement after meeting in Athens with Foreign Minister George Papandreou, and in light of a Greek EU presidency in the first half of 2003.

He also said Greeces role is critical in ironing out the procedure towards enacting institutional reforms for the EU Commission following an upcoming expansion.

Finally, the British Commissioner said Athens experience and contributions in the expansion process have been especially positive.

Besides Commission reform issues, which fall under Kinnocks portfolio, both men also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East.
