[01] Athens Stock Exchange opening: bourse rising

Equities were edging upward at the opening of trading Wednesday on the Athens Stock Exchange, with the general share price index up 0.33 percent at 11:20am at 2,207.53 points and turnover at 5.5 million euros, or 1.9 billion drachmas.

The majority of individual sector indices were rising, with the biggest gains in mining and cement, up 1.76 percent; IT products and solutions, up 0.78 percent; and holding, up 0.74 percent. The biggest losses were in publishing, down 0.59 percent; investments, down 0.56 percent; and retail trade, down 0.44 per cent.

The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.50 percent, while the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.26 percent, and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index was down 0.02 percent.

Of the stocks moved, 132 were up, 56 were down and 42 were unchanged.

[02] Weather Forecast: Cloudy on Wednesday

The day will be cloudy in all parts of the country, turning to showers and storms mainly in Macedonia, Thrace and the northern Aegean. Rain and storms may occur on the rest of the mainland from late afternoon. Winds northerly, light, turning moderate at sea. In the north, temperatures will range from 7C to 18C; on the rest of the mainland from 10C to 22C; and in the islands from 13C to 20C. Rain may fall north of Athens from early evening with temperatures between 12C and 20C. Rain and storms in Thessaloniki mainly later in the day, with temperatures from 9C to 18C.
