[01] Athens Stock Exchange opening: decline25/04/2002 11:50:58Equities were falling in lacklustre trade at the opening of the Athens Stock Exchange on Thursday, with the general share price index down 0.66 percent at 11:20am at 2,202.17 points and turnover at 11.6 million euros, or 4.0 billion drachmas. The majority of individual sector indices were losing ground, with the biggest losses in banks, down 1.64 percent; investments, down 1.09 percent; and foods and beverages, down 0.86 percent. The biggest gains were in manufacturing, up 0.42 percent; retail trade, up 0.09 percent; and publishing, up 0.05 per cent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 1.07 percent, while the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.10 percent, and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index was down 0.36 percent. Of the stocks moved, 75 were up, 128 were down and 43 were unchanged. Winds variable, light, turning moderate at sea. In the north, temperatures will range from 7C to 17C; on the rest of the mainland from 10C to 20C; and in the islands from 13C to 19C. Rain or storms may occur from early evening, with temperatures between 12C and 20C. Same in Thessaloniki, with temperatures from 9C to 19C.
