[03] Greek stocks fall for eight consecutive session

    20/06/2002 16:51:16

Greek stocks remained under pressure for the eight consecutive session in the Athens Stock Exchange on Thurday pushing the general index away from the 2,200 technical support level.

A negative climate in international markets and a fall in Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation's share price (-5.53 percent) due to dividend cut, kept prices under pressure.

The general index ended 0.63 percent lower at 2,179.63 points, with turnover a low 103.6 million euros.

The Food-Beverage and the Parallel Market for smaller capitalisation stocks sectors were the only ones to scored gains (0.26 percent and 0.15 percent, respectively), while the Telecommunications, Publication and IT Solution sectors suffered the biggest percentage losses (3.07 percent, 1,34 percent and 0.94 percent).

The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavy traded stocks fell 0.97 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index eased 0.62 percent and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index ended 0.06 percent lower.

Broadly, decliners led advancers by 186 to 104 with another 56 issues unchanged.
