[01] Athens Stock Exchange opening: stocks edge downward14/08/2002 12:30:27Equities were slipping in lacklustre trade at the opening of trading Wednesday on the Athens Stock Exchange, though losses were far more restricted than those in other European stock markets. The general share price index was down 0.32 per cent in the first 45 minutes to stand at 2,124.86 points, with turnover at 5.10 million euros. The biggest gains in individual sector indices were in Television and Recreation, driven up 1.69 per cent by rising OPAP stock, while the biggest losses were in Refineries, down 1.27 per cent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.46 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.31 percent, and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index was down 0.07 percent. Of the stocks moved, 56 were up, 96 were down and 51 were unchanged.
