[01] Two Turkish migrant traffickers, illegal immigrants arrested on Kos (Recasts)

A court on the Dodecanese island of Kos on Saturday sentenced a Turkish migrant trafficker to 69 months in jail, which can be bought off for 6 euros per day, and imposed on him a total fine of 17,500 euros.

Ibrahim Alil Dorman was arrested on Saturday morning for transporting 29 illegal immigrants.

In another incident, patrol boats on Kos on Saturday intercepted a Turkish trawler before it managed to slip back into Turkish territorial waters and arrested Turkish national Isa Keser, 34. There were no other people on board the trawler other than the migrant trafficker who lacked travel documents.

On arrest, Keser admitted that he had earlier disembarked on the coast of Psalidi, in Kos, 17 African illegal immigrants.

Harbour police tracked down 14 illegal immigrants (8 Sudanese, 3 Ethiopians, 2 Somalis and 1 Egyptian) and are continuing their search to locate any other possible illegal immigrants.

The arrested will appear before the Kos public prosecutor, while the vessel has been seized.

Sunshine is forecast in most parts of the country, with scattered cloud on the mainland and northern Aegean that will turn to showers or brief storms, especially in the centre and north. Winds northerly, light to moderate, turning strong in parts of the south. In the north, temperatures will range from 18C to 28C; on the rest of the mainland from 20C to 33C; and in the islands from 23C to 32C. Temperatures in Athens between 23C and 34C; and in Thessaloniki between 22C and 28C.
