[01] Athens Stock Exchange opening: stocks fall in edgy trade

Equities were falling at the opening of the session Monday on the Athens Stock Exchange, with investor confidence at a low ebb due to continued instability in European markets.

The general share price index was down 0.28 per cent 15 minutes after trade opened, standing at 2,061.05 points, with turnover at 2.0 million euros.

Individual sector indices were mostly losing ground, with the biggest gains in Retail Trade, up 1.23 per cent, followed by Foods and Beverages, up 0.13 per cent. The biggest losses were in IT solutions, down 1.55 per cent, followed by Holding, down 1.21 per cent.

The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.42 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.28 percent, and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index was down 0.26 percent.

Of the stocks moved, 58 were up, 104 were down and 38 were unchanged.

Rain in the eastern and southern Greek mainland is forecast on Monday, improving heading into the afternoon. Clouds elsewhere with scattered showers possible. Northwesterly winds, weak to moderate. Temperatures between 14C to 27 in the north; 17C to 29 in the rest of the country.
