[01] Athens Stock Exchange opening: stocks surge up

Equities were rising strongly at the opening of the session Tuesday on the Athens Stock Exchange, influenced by upward trends in international money markets.

The general share price index was up 1.30 per cent at 11:15 a.m., standing at 1,965.99 points, with turnover at 6.7 million euros or 2.3 billion drachmas.

Individual sector indices were moving up nearly across the board, with the only decline in Insurance, down 0.03 percent. The biggest gains were in: Textiles, up 2.66 percent; Holding, up 2.37 percent; Construction, up 2.33 percent and IT solutions, up 2.04 per cent.

The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 1.10 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 1.06 percent, and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index was up 1.40 percent.

Of the stocks moved, 210 were up, 16 were down and 33 were unchanged.

Sunshine is forecast in most parts of the country, with showers or storms possible on the mainland or in the north. Winds north-northwesterly, light to moderate. In the north, temperatures will range from 13C to 23C; on the rest of the mainland from 15C to 27C; and in the Aegean islands from 18C to 27C. Temperatures in Athens between 18C and 27C; and in Thessaloniki from 15C to 23C.
