World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) president Andrew Athens issued a
message this week for the Christmas and New Years holidays.
?To Greeks around the world, let me wish you from the bottom of my
heart that the coming New Year be fruitful, with health and many joys
in your daily life. Let me also express my wish for love and unity,
with a certainty that it is with these that we can achieve and promote
the issues that affect us.?
Athens mentioned, among others, that the timely Cyprus issue as well as
SAEs stepped up efforts to achieve the re-opening of the Halki
Academy of Theology on the same-name island, closed by Turkish
authorities since 1971. He also mentioned efforts aimed at finally
getting the Israeli government to recognise the enthronement of
Jerusalem Patriarch Irineos.
