[01] Vodafone announces action for children, health and environment01/04/2003 20:59:38Vodafone-PanafonSA, which is quoted on the Athens bourse, on Wednesday announced a programme to promote health, protect the environment and help children. Among the mobile phone operator's activities are recycling for batteries and paper, energy saving schemes, tree planting and nature conservation programmes in conjuntion with the WWF. A special programme this year is devoted to helping the dolphin. Among the firm's child welfare programmes are aid for children with learning and physical difficulties and a mobile paediatric unit in conjunction with Doctors of the World. Panafon's assistance in the health sector includes a programme to monitor electromagnetic emissions, implemented with the National Technical University of Athens. [04] Greek stocks end slightly up on Tuesday01/04/2003 16:53:51Greek stocks ended Tuesday's session slightly higher in the Athens Stock Exchange, reversing Monday's sharp fall to new six-year lows. The general index ended 0.50 percent higher at 1,474.65 points, with turnover a low 45.1 million euros. The Telecommunications, Construction and IT Solutions sector scored the biggest percentage gains of the day (2.27 percent, 1.81 percent and 1.72 percent, respectively), while the Food-Beverage (0.50 percent), Banks (0.36 percent) and Industrials (0.25 percent) suffered the heaviest percentage losses. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavy traded stocks rose 0.16 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index ended 0.67 percent higher, the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index jumped 1.28 percent and the FTSE/ASE 140 index ended 0.36 percent up.
