The east and south may see showers or brief storms. Winds northerly, moderate to strong, turning very strong in the Ionian and gale force in the Aegean. In the west, temperatures will range from 9C to 21C; in the north from 7C to 18C; and in the rest of the country from 10C to 19C. [03] Greek stocks end lower on Thursday24/04/2003 16:50:50Greek stocks ended lower the last trading session of a shortened week (the market will remain closed on Friday and Monday for the Orthodox Church Easter holidays), with market sentiment undermined by news of a tax evasion scandal covering three companies in ALTEC Group. The general index fell 0.58 percent to end at 1,663.77 points, with turnover a low 79.5 million euros. The IT Solution, Holding and Food-Beverage sectors suffered the heaviest percentage losses of the day (2.37 percent, 2.24 percent and 1.78 percent, respectively), while the Insurance (1.08 percent), Banks (0.78 percent) and Retail (0.67 percent) sectors scored the biggest percentage gains. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavy traded stocks eased 0.45 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index dropped 0.48 percent, the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index eased 0.38 percent, and the wider FTSE/ASE 140 index fell 0.45 percent. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 181 to 119 with another 53 issues unchanged. ASE chairman Panagiotis Alexanis on Friday announced a board decision to extend a suspension of trading in ALTEC Group, ALTER TV and Microland shares.
