[01] Athens court tosses out OTE telecom discount scheme09/07/2003 20:38:04An Athens administrative court on Wednesday ruled against a discount rate package offered by Athens-quoted Hellenic Telecommunications (OTE) as unfair competition. The heavily advertised package for retail and corporate customers offered discounts for calls abroad of up to 35 percent based on a customer's overall telephone traffic. Later on Wednesday, OTE sent a revised package to the national telecoms and post office commission for approval, the company said in a statement. The new proposal decouples the discount on international calls from the rest of the bill, the statement said. [03] Greek stocks ease on profit taking09/07/2003 17:01:10Greek stocks ended lower in the Athens Stock Exchange on Wednesday as investors continued taking profits particularly in blue chip stocks. The general index ended 0.49 percent lower at 1,996,93 points with turnover a moderate 157.5 million euros. The Cement, Investment and Holding suffered the heaviest percentage losses of the day (1.72 percent, 1.32 percent and 1.23 percent, respectively), while the Food-Beverage (2.09 percent), Textile (1.42 percent) and the Wholesale sector (1.25 percent) scored the biggest percentage gains. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavy traded stocks fell 1.0 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index rose 0.34 percent, the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index jumped 1.57 percent and the wider FTSE/ASE 140 index eased 0.50 percent. Broadly, advancers led decliners by 196 to 129 with another 42 issues unchanged. The Greek Soccer Pool Organisation (OPAP) on Wednesday launched its initial public offering with a share price range of 8.50 to 9.70 euros. The Piraeus Port Organisation will launch its initial public offering July 22-25 by floating a 25 percent equity stake in the market.
