[01] Athens Stock Exchange opening: Substantial Rise

Equities marked a substantial rise at the opening of the trading
session Wednesday on the Athens Stock Exchange, with the general share
price index up 1.04 per cent at 11:30 a.m., standing at 2,172.77
points, and turnover at 37.9 million euro.
Individual sector indices were moving mostly upward, with the biggest
gains in Telecommunications, up 2.44 per cent, Information Technology,
up 1.71 per cent, and Textiles, up 1.68 per cent. The only losses are
in Investments, slightly down 0.14 per cent.
The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up
0.97 per cent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.85 per cent, and the
FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index was up 1.56 per cent.
Of the stocks moved, 231 were up, 42 were down, and 43 were unchanged.
