[03] Athens Bourse Close: Stocks drops in mid-cap selling

The Athens bourse finished lower in selling of medium capitalisation stocks despite support from the heavily weighted banking sector, traders said.

The general share index shed 0.40 per cent to end at 2,543.54 points. Turnover was 140.3 million euros.

The FTSE/ASE-20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks ended 0.34 per cent down; the FTSE/ASE-40 for medium capitalisation paper 1.03 per cent lower; and the FTSE/ASE-80 for small cap equities lost 0.59 per cent.

Of stocks traded, declines led advances at 228 to 74 with 63 issues remaining unchanged.
