Deputy Foreign Minister Evripides Stylianidis, on an official visit to Kazakhstan, underlined the mutual will for strengthening trade relations and investments between the two countries, particularly in the energy sector.

"We received this assurance during the signing of an Economic and Technological Cooperation Protocol, with which a joint Inter-ministerial committee ended its session," he said from Astana.

Referring to the Burgas-Alexandroupoli oil pipeline project, the deputy foreign minister said Kazakhstan's participation in the implementation phase should widen bilateral relations.

"We, both at the beginning of the agreement with Bulgaria and Russia and during negotiations, were open to the participation of Kazakhstan; this intention is also reflected in the document signed on Monday," he added.

The protocol anticipates the completion of agreements on the mutual protection of investments and the avoidance of double taxation.

Energy-rich has a growth rate of around 9 percent and has a large trade surplus and inflow of investments, with top investors listed as the Netherlands, the United States, China, Canada and Russia.

Bilateral trade ties are currently limited to 400 million US dollars, but with a major trade deficit for Greece.
