  • [01] Greece will have absorbed all 3rd CSF funds by 2008

Deputy Finance Minister Christos Folias appeared optimistic that Greece will manage to absorb all the funds available under the 3rd Community Support Framework by the year 2008, during the 3rd meeting of the Political Committee and the Monitoring Committee of the ambitious "Pindos" programme held in Lavda, Grevena.

Addressing the meeting held on Saturday, Folias noted that in the first 50 months of the 3rd CSF about 21 percent of the funds had been absorbed, while at 77 months this figure stood at 45 percent.

"This means that we have more than doubled the rate [of absorption of funds]," the minister said, while stressing that the government had also managed reform the entire system for monitoring and carrying out projects under the CSF.

"Though the remaining 30 months are a relatively short space of time in which to absorb the remaining 55 percent [of CSF funds], I am confident that by the end of 2008 we will be able to use all the remaining funds, however many they are, because we are treading on firm ground," he said.

The five-year integrated and sustainable development programme for north and central Pindos was initiated by Folias in the summer of 2004 with a budget of â¬80 million from national funds and the participation of the Grevena, Ioannina, Kastoria and Trikala prefectures. The budget has now increased on â¬100 million, while the prefectures of Kozani and - from Saturday - those of Arta and Karditsa have also come on board.
