  • [01] First exit polls after voting ends in local elections

    The first exit polls were released shortly after 1900 hours on Sunday when nationwide balloting in local elections came to an end.

    Tipped to win their posts in the first round of voting are the three top candidates for Athens, Piraeus and Thessaloniki mayor; and the leading contenders for Athens-Piraeus supra-prefect and Thessaloniki prefect.

    No second round of voting is expected for the five key positions, on the basis of the exit polls.

    According to a poll commissioned by NET state television, voting went as follows for the Athens-Piraeus Supra-Prefect:

  • Aryiris Dinopoulos, 31.5-34.4% (backed by the ruling New Democracy party)

  • Fofi Yennimata, 44.1-47.1% (backed by main opposition PASOK)

  • Yiorgos Mavrikos, 8.4-11.4% (backed by the Communist Party of Greece)

  • Yiorgos Panousis, 3.9-5.9% (backed by the Coalition of the Left, Movements and Ecology)

    For Thessaloniki Prefect:

  • Panayiotis Psomiadis, 49.5-52.5% (backed by the ruling New Democracy party)

  • Voula Patoulidou, 31-34% (backed by main opposition PASOK)

  • G Ziogas, 4-6% (backed by the Communist Party of Greece)

  • S Plomaritis, 3-5% (backed by the Coalition of the Left, Movements and Ecology)

    For Athens Mayor:

  • Nikitas Kaklamanis, 44.8-47.8% (backed by the ruling New Democracy party)

  • Kostas Skandalidis, 28.3-31.3% (backed by main opposition PASOK)

  • Spyros Halvatzis, 6.5-8.5% (backed by the Communist Party of Greece)

  • Alexis Tsipras, 10.5-13.5% (backed by the Coalition of the Left, Movements and Ecology)

    For Piraeus Mayor:

  • Christos Agrapidis, 34.1-37.1% (backed by the ruling New Democracy party)

  • Panayotis Fassoulas, 44.2-47.2% (backed by main opposition PASOK)

  • E Pantelakis, 4.8-6.8% (backed by the Communist Party of Greece)

  • T Dritsas, 3.6-5.6% (backed by the Coalition of the Left, Movements and Ecology)

    For Thessaloniki Mayor:

  • Vassilis Papayeoryopoulos, 42-45% (backed by the ruling New Democracy party)

  • C Arapoglou, 22.6-25.6% (backed by main opposition PASOK)

  • A Sahinis, 4.4-6.4% (backed by the Communist Party of Greece)

  • A Kourakis, 3.6-5.6% (backed by the Coalition of the Left, Movements and Ecology)
