[01] Traffic measures for return of excursionistsTraffic police were on the alert on Sunday in the country's national highways and urban regions so as to facilitate drivers and pedestrians in view of the Carnival celebrations and the Clean Monday religious holiday. Traffic measures are being taken in central Athens and the suburbs, ports, railway and bus stations and airports to facilitate pedestrians and vehicles. At the same time, traffic police are posted at all the main junctions of the national highways, while police patrol cars and motorbikes are stationed in the Attica Basin for the prevention of accidents. Traffic police crews are also checking violations, such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, dangerous manoeuvering, violation of traffic lights and the non-use of safety belts and helmets.The police are also appealing to parents to place their children in the back seat of the car and for drivers not to make use of mobile phones. Trucks are not allowed on the roads from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday and from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Clean Monday. [02] Cypriot president due in AthensPresident of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos will be in Athens from February 20-22 for talks with the political leadership in Greece to discuss the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue. President Papadopoulos will hold a meeting on Wednesday with Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, followed by a joint press conference.His talks with Karamanlis will also cover the oil exploration and expoitation rights in seas to the south of Cyprus. In the afternoon of the same day, he will receive the leaders of the political parties. The following day, Papadopoulos will meet with President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias.
