[01] Education bill aims at better state universities
The government's unswerving goal was to create good state universities
in Greece that were equal to the best universities abroad and the draft
framework bill for higher education was a first step in this direction,
Education and Religious Affairs Minister Marietta Yiannakou said on
Friday.
She was speaking in Sparti while laying the foundation stone for the
new facilities of the University of the Peloponnese.
Yiannakou also expressed satisfaction that a project that was vital for
both Sparti and the prefecture of Laconia was starting to take form
while she was at the helm of the education ministry.
The new university buildings will cover an area of 6,000 square metres
and include a 400-seat auditorium equipped with the latest audiovisual
and automatic translation technology, an electronic library and
fully-equipped IT laboratories.
[02] Alzheimer's skin patch on Greek market
A new treatment, in the form of a skin patch, will be used by patients
suffering from Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's dementia, and is
expected to be on the Greek market in October.
The patch will be used to convey the drug rivastigmine through
patients' skin, eliminating the need for the consumption of pills
orally on a daily basis.
The announcement was made during the 5th conference on Alzheimer's
Disease and Related Disorders, held in Thessaloniki.
