[01] Rivaldo signs with AEK Athens
The AEK Athens football club on Tuesday announced the signing of
Brazilian superstar Rivaldo to a two-year contract, as the 1999
international player of the year transferred from rival Olympiakos
Piraeus after falling out with the former team's management.
Olympiakos won the 2006-2007 Greek first division championship earlier
this month, with AEK coming in second and securing its participation in
the Champions League third qualifying round.
In brief statements appearing on the club's official website, the
35-year-old attacking midfielder said that remaining in Athens with his
family played a major role in his decision.
The left-footed Brazilian international will undoubtedly be the
best-known player to don AEK's yellow-and-black jersey in its 83-year
history.
