[01] KKE leader on tour of Imathia, Pieria prefectures
Communist Party of Greece (KKE) leader Aleka Papariga on Friday
criticised the programmes of the ruling New Democracy party (ND) and
PASOK as "poverty platforms", in statements on arrival at
Thessaloniki's Macedonia Airport, heading for a tour of the Imathia and
Pieria prefectures.
She said that the two mainstream parties acknowledged not only the
existence of poverty, but also the fact that it will increase, and were
therefore attempting to cover this up with "ploys".
Their goal, she added, was to reduce wages, pensions and social
services as much as possible, noting that "this is the modernisation,
reform and renewal preached by ND and PASOK, and which is rejected by
the KKE".
Regarding the structured bonds affair, Papariga opined that "their
clash over the bonds is in the interests of both ND and PASOK" because
"in this way they are attempting to conceal the fact that the social
insurance funds have been looted for more than 50 years", but also to
conceal their methodisation to equate the retirement age for men and
women alike at 65 years, while she warned that they might also raise
the retirement age to 67 or 71 "if their course is not halted by the
people's vote".
Papariga was due to tour Imathia prefecture throughout Friday,
including a meeting with unemployed and dismissed workers in Naoussa in
the afternoon before addressing a political rally in Veria on Friday
night. On Saturday she is slated to tour Pieria prefecture.
