[01] PASOK leader addresses rally in Thessaloniki

The PASOK leader avoided making distinctions of any kind, saying that all will be winners on Sunday, adding that "the strength of victory on Sunday cannot be intercepted by the New Democracy (ND) party, whatever it may do."

Papandreou said it is the time to change Greece and stressed "we can do it, we know it and we shall do it."

He further said that PASOK "is coming to power to rid the country of deadlocks, to speak the language of truth and to guarantee the future of the country and the unity of the Greeks," stressing that it will be a strong government of trust.

Also referring to the "new patriotism", he said it means that it "is the foundation of revival, it is the truth and not New Democracy's lie."

Papandreou added that the "message being sent by Thessaloniki is clear and resounding and the citizens are aware of the crucial nature of Sunday's vote for today, tomorrow and Greece."

Sunday's vote "is a national mandate for an end to the downhill course ... and the 'enough is enough' addressed to the right-wing forces is being transformed into a vote for PASOK," the main opposition leader said.

Papandreou reiterated criticism of the government, accusing it that it "made Greece smaller and harmed democracy" and, referring to the recent destruction caused by the wildfires, said "they are the tragic post script in the New Democracy party's tenure, it is the post script of incompetence and of the lack of governance."

Papandreou said that the ruling New Democracy party constituted a "chaos" and that the Karamanlis' government "constitutes an asymmetrical threat for the Greek citizen."

Referring to his party's programme, Papandreou said that it has been renewed and insisted that "we are not all the same" and that "there are no one-way roads."

Papandreou further accused ND of wanting "to impose in Greece the inhuman and deadlocked model of growth that is based on cheap labour."

He underlined that the model of growth backed by PASOK will invest in education, young people, man, the environment, art and culture, the elderly and youth who will be the country's leadership tomorrow.

Lastly, Papandreou focused on matters concerning Thessaloniki and northern Greece, saying "what is most important is not for some projects to be materialised but the emancipation of the city which must believe in itself and in its potential."
