[01] Papandreou to attend session in Sofia
PASOK party leader and Socialist International (SI) President George
Papandreou will travel to Sofia, Bulgaria, on Friday to participate in
a session of the European Socialist Party's Council.
According to an announcement by PASOK, its president will be addressing
the Council on the "Priorities of the European Socialists in light of
the Euroelections in 2009," while at noon he will be participating in a
luncheon served for the leaders attending the Council's session.
During his stay in the Bulgarian capital, Papandreou will be meeting
Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov at the Presidential Mansion, as
well as Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanisev and Italian Democratic
Party leader Walter Veltroni.
The announcement further said that the Council's agenda is discussing
and adopting the texts that will constitute the main body of the
European Socialists' Manifesto in the 2009 Euroelections and more
specifically: the European Union on the international stage: The
promotion of a viable peaceful coexistence, the market economy with a
Socialist content and combatting climatic change: From a planetary
priority to a global opportunity.
The Council will also be discussing the four texts that will be the
focus of consultations at European level with the members and friends
of the socialist parties: The new social Europe, democracy and
diversity in Europe, how shall we save the planet and Europe in the
world.
