  • [01] PASOK leader accuses gov't of 'scandals'

Main opposition Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) leader George Papandreou said on Friday the country was "in the face of dramatic developments" while referring to developments regarding the Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation (OTE), the Olympic Airways and the tabling by the government of an amendment relating to the bonds issue.

In relevant statements, the main opposition leader accused the government of "three current scandals", charging that "Greece looses the control of OTE", that the governemt "tries to cover up its responsibilities regarding Olympic Airways with pleadings with the European Union" and that it is planning "to pass shameful amendments in order to cover up the big scandal of the bonds."

"With these three scandals, it is confirmed that the government undermines the Greek economy and the country's prospects, while it damages systematically the interests of the Greek people," Papandreou noted.

He also assessed that the government "is panicking in its effort to cover up its responsibilities" and reiterated that PASOK "had in time foreseen and warned of these bad developments when it spoke of the 'hatch' of public utilities in the sectors of energy and telecommunications."

The government, Papandreou added, "has led into trouble the big companies of strategic importance," accusing it of not conducting any reforms but "settling out interests and putting the economy in danger."
