[01] PM briefed on pension reformsPrime Minister Costas Karamanlis was briefed on Saturday by Employment and Social Insurances Minister Fani Palli-Petralia regarding the all-important course of pension reform for the country's creaky social security sector.Afterwards, Petralia said three pension funds have merged by June 1, with another 28 funds merged by Aug. 1. She pointed to Oct. 1 as the date for completely various mergers of Greece's numerous state-run pension funds. Moreover, she flatly dismissed opposition criticism that funds' reserves have decreased, saying the planned mergers do not affect funds' guaranteed reserves. [02] Health Minister visits LibyaHealth and Social Solidarity Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos on Friday paid a one-day visit to Tripoli, Libya, following an invitation by his Libyan counterpart Dr. Mohamed Abu Ejaila Rashed.Avramopoulos had talks with Libyan government officials on the health system with the objective of promoting cooperation programs on health issues between the two countries. The two health ministers signed a memorandum of cooperation, which covers a broad spectrum of issues, such as scientific research and training, the exchange of scientific programs as well as cooperation in the sectors of medicine and of investments in health. [03] Synaspismos event on BalkansThe Parliament-represented Coalition of the Left (Synaspismos) party on Saturday hosted a conference in Thessaloniki focusing on Balkan developments, with European Left vice-president Graziella Mascia speaking at the event.Mascia warned against the "re-division" of Europe and "precedents of illegality". On his part, Synaspismos leader Alexis Tsipras expressed his party concerns over the recent unilateral declaration of independence in Kosovo and over plans to build more nuclear power plants in SE Europe.
