[01] PM confers with FinMin George AlogoskoufisPrime minister Costas Karamanlis met on Wednesday with Economy and Finance minister George Alogoskoufis, to discuss the impact of the international economic developments on the Greek economy.Speaking to reporters afterwards, Alogoskoufis said that it was a known fact that there were several effects on the European economy due to the international credit crisis, as well as on European inflation, some of which were also seen in Greece. Given that background, the minister continued, the government was determined to proceed with those reforms that would give the Greek economy they momentum it needs to continue to grow at higher rates than the rest of Europe, and to face the problems that have also to do with the lower income brackets, but also for the further good course of the Greek economy. Hymettus, near Athens, spreading quickly up the mountain's eastern slope, burning forest expanse and covering surrounding areas in smoke, while also causing power outages in parts of central Athens and several suburbs as two local Public Power Corporation (PPC) stations' emergency systems kicked into force, shutting them down and cutting off electricity supply.According to initial reports, the fire front extended over two kilometers, while the blaze was headed towards the suburb of Peania, northeast of Athens.
