  • [01] Tsoukatos testified on Siemens

Former prime minister Costas Simitis' close advisor and main opposition PASOK party deputy (2000-2004), Theodoros Tsoukatos who admitted that German multinational Siemens offered a one million Dmark 'campaign contribution' prior to the 2000 general elections to then ruling PASOK, testified on Saturday before the public prosecutor Panagiotis Athanassiou.

Tsoukatos accompanied by his lawyer Dionyssis Gouskos testified for 2.5 hours before Athanassiou and delivered him a 6 page memorandum in which he explains what happened before and after the arrangement to deposit the money to the bank account of a businessman of his acquaintance.

Leaving the prosecutor's office, Tsoukatos reiterated to reporters his claims that the sum was eventually directed toward PASOK campaign's funds in smaller installments.

Referring to persons appearing as holders of the accounts where the money was initially channeled to Tsoukatos said "I feel the moral duty to state that these persons have nothing to do with the case" and added "I feel strong because I did nothing for my benefit, I also feel sad because the party I served for 30 years has abandoned me ".
